Default The explanation behind Judy Cohen's appearance on Good Times in season 4

She was discovered by Norman Lear in a night club in NYC in May of 1976 and offer her a part as a guest on Good Times which aired on Dec 29. 1976. It was supposed to air a week before the new show she was starring on called A Year at the Top in Jan of 1977 but CBS postponed the premeire date twice and never aired that month. And then it was cancelled altogether because CBS didnt like the show. When it reappeare on the schedule in August of 1977, she was no longer part of the show.

It was a very odd episode in a desperate attempt of a spin off. A character that has nothing to do with Good Times inserted in an episode and then BOOM a spin off.

There is one part of this episode that annoys the hell out of me. When Judy is performing on stage singing "everyone loves a clown" the camera cuts to JJ and he does this forced laugh that is so fake. I dont know why but it annoys me because its so forced and fake.
There was nothing funny about her act, right?

It was only odd to us who discovered in syndication because it made no sense and was not the typical Good Times episode. To those who watched it back in 1976 was given a heads up as to what to expect and why. But when I saw this episode for 1st in syndication I was so confused. And u see it ended up being all for nothing because the show never aired a week later and she ended up being removed from the show altogether. It wasnt a spinoff attempt to was to give her some exposure before her show aired the following week which never did.
