Some small schedule changes starting on Memorial Day. The Honeymooners replaces Gomer Pyle USMC at 9:30 PM ,The Twilight Zone replaces The Carol Burnette Show at 11:00pm, and Dragnet moves into The Twilight Zone slot at 12:35AM.

I know this Honeymooners add will gain them at least one viewer.

The MeTV listing shows The Honeymooners episode as season 4 episode 1. The episode listed is the first episode of the classic 39, which consisted of only one season.

I wonder if they are planning to also show the so-called lost (kinescope) episodes. I kinda doubt it.

It's really intriguing how this channel continues to merely add airings of existing shows to their lineup, when they have ratings problems. MASH 4X, Dragnet 3X. Or bring back shows they previously aired, such as Emergency and Gomer Pyle.

Dropping Carol Burnett is also interesting. That's a longtime entry to suddenly have a ratings problem.

Small" is a bit of an understatement. METV only makes changes when it has to, there is a lot to unpack here.

The Carol Burnett Show has been on for years, I can't remember when it wasn't on METV. I wonder if the Sunday airing will be pulled as well. I would have moved Perry Mason to an 11pm start, move up the Twilight Zone to 12:05, move the Hitchcock hour to 12:35 and then Dragnet at 1:35 to start the detective programming block. I'd also return Highway Patrol to 5am with just one showing of Dragnet at 5:30.

Dragnet is like the Energizer Bunny it goes on and on and on. I guess I can understand watching this show on a once a week basis, but three airings a day! There are only 98 episodes and some are a bit on the slow side. How many times can someone watch that fake forest ranger episode, or the guy stealing the movie posters, or the police retreat episode, I don't get it, but I don't get Hogan's Heroes either.

I never understood why METV brought back Gomer Pyle. I watched some of the episodes the first time around and most of it seemed so trite. There's an episode about Gomer taking care of the Colonel's dog, his daughter, his breakfast, bringing back a baby carriage to the store. The latest METV run lasted about 5 months I hope we won't see it again.

The Honeymooners at 9:30 that's an interesting choice, if METV maintains the Sunday airing the entire series will take less than 7weeks to run through all 39 episodes. How long can METV maintain the show at that velocity before the audience drops off. I think they should give consideration to moving Petticoat Junction into the 9:30 timeslot. It fits with the Beverly Hillbillies, there are a lot of episodes (222), even if they should decide to only show the first five seasons (the Bea Benaderet seasons), there are still 170 episodes available.

At this point it would appear unlikely METV will invest in acquiring any new shows. The network seems satisfied with milking what they have until such time as the audience is just too old for the network to effectively monetize the channel.

I would strongly suggest this…

Monday’s-Friday’s
6:00pm-7:00pm MASH
7:00pm-8:00pm All In The Family
8:00pm-9:00pm The Honeymooners
9:00pm-10:00pm Leave It To Beaver
10:00pm-11:00pm The Andy Griffith Show

Sunday’s
7:00pm-8:00pm Highlighting Vacation episodes
8:00pm-9:00pm Hogans Heroes
9:00pm The Beverly Hillbillies
9:30pm Petticoat Junction

WPIX in NYC made the 39 episodes work for years - probably over 50. MeTV is probably banking on that. We'll see.

Last time I checked, their overall ratings are excellent. The demographics, not so good.

Also, a comment about Dragnet. They're really overdoing it with that show, with its low number of episodes.

If it didn't bring much improvement at 5 am, I agree, they should bring back Highway Patrol. Even more radical would be to consider airing the black and white Dragnets [yes, I doubt that would happen, and they may not even be available.]

Another update on the new schedule, beginning June 1st the hour long Twilight Zone episodes will air at 12:30 with Hitchcock being reduce to one half hour episode.

With respect to Carol Burnett, the series will retain its Sunday night slot.

That's true, around the mid70's they began showing two episodes a night! I believe that went on for years. Of course in those days there were basically 6 stations available in most of the New York metro area.

One final note on The Honeymooners, it will be on 6 nights a week as the series has retained its late Sunday night airing.

I'm adding one additional item to this post, this summer will be the 50th anniversary of the passing of Rod Serling (June 28, 1975), I wonder if some of the moves the network made might be tied in to that anniversary. The show is being given a more prominent time slot (11pm) and they are adding season 4 airings on Sunday nights. Maybe The Carol Burnett Show will be brought back after Labor Day.
