Default Why am I such a huge commercial fan? This is how my interest began

If there is one thing I love about being on Sitcoms Online it's because I have such a wonderful job on here teaching all of you about favorite commercials from the 50's to today and many of you are curious to know why I am a big commercials fan and this is how I began my interest in commercials,
When I was a little girl I dreamed of becoming a movie star or TV star and would sit with my parents watching TV all the time. But then when the shows would be on break I saw something that enchanted me and that was commercials and I would always pretend to act out commercials all the time and there was something about commercials that drawn me in. As a toddler my two favorite commercial slogans were By Mennen and "Zestfully Clean" and there was just something about commercials that sparked my interest. And even today if somebody were to ask me about Mennen or Zest Soap commercials I would probably smile. If you were to ask me about what is my favorite genre of commercial is I would say food commercials are my favorites because they are so amazing and sometimes i'm also known to pick dinner just by seeing the amazing food commercials they have. And my love of commercials has grown with my family becoming commercial fans and even my uncle loves vintage commercials too as does my mother as well
If you have any questions about me and my commercial research please be so wonderful and post on this thread because I just love reading everyone's wonderful posts to me
Happy commercial watching,
Hawkee

When people ask me what inspires me to research certain commercials ideas for commercial research just pop out of nowhere and I get to see what commercials are interesting to learn about. One time my mother saw me looking at commercials for Domino's Pizza and she instantly thought up Domino's Pizza for dinner that day and as we were eating I asked why Mom thought up Domino's Pizza and she told me that it was "your commercial research Hawkee". I also love researching commercials for vintage supermarkets because it's amazing how supermarkets used to promote sales through awesome commercials with neat slogans compared to today's supermarket commercials

In the 1970's, somewhere around 1973 or 74, the CBS network had a series of commercials that promoted the network and it's various TV shows. The commercials had a common message that boasted CBS had been the best network for 18 years in a row. The commercials were musical, and each one had a song. If I remember correct, there was a commercial for different regions of the country. One for the East, the West, the South, and the Midwest.

Another ad campaign from the 1970's that I remember are the Me And My RC cola commercials that started airing around 1975. These commercials were also musical, each one having a song, my favorite being the one that was titled "Stock Car", that commercial is permanently engraved in my memory. A vinyl record album was also issued which contains the songs from the various commercials, the album is not easy to find and I'm glad to have a copy.

Hello 1960'sTVFan,
Great facts about that commercial you shared with me. You really are such a shining star and wonderful to share your commercial knowledge with me. I don't believe I've seen that commercial album before. But another commercials related album that I often use when I don't always have access to Youtube is an album called TeeVee Toons The Commercials and it debuted in 1989 and has most of the commercial jingles and commercials that I have researched here and is a great starter for anyone who wants to research and learn about vintage commercials
Good job sharing that commercial knowledge with me 1960'sTVFan you are truly an amazing wonder

Thanks Hawkee, your kindness is much appreciated.

A few more 1970's commercial memories from my memory bank:

The song lyrics from a 1970's musical commercial for Pepsi Cola:

Join the Pepsi people, feelin free feelin free
Join the Pepsi people, feelin free feelin free
All across the nation, it's the Pepsi generation
Here today, here to stay, feelin free

I could make a long story about this one but I'll keep it short. Around 1974 there was a commercial that ran a few times on local Chicago TV, it was seen on WSNS-TV channel 44. It's one of the funniest commercials I've ever seen. The commercial was for used car dealer Southland Motors which was located on Chicago's south side. Appearing in the commercial was "bad guy" wrestler/manager Bobby Heenan, who of course trashed the place and basically told people that Southland Motors sold junk cars. It wasn't meant to be taken seriously but maybe some people did, I don't know. Anyway, this is what Heenan said as the commercial came to a close.

"I'm going to tell you one thing right now. If you want to shop for a car anyplace, don't go to Southland Motors, because I don't shop there. Bruiser shops there, Cholak shops there, Snyder shops there, Gagne shops there, and Gomez, but I don't. They say they get great deals, they say their cars shine and run fine, believe me they're clunkers! They don't shine they don't run, they just sit there and collect rust!!"

Again, one of the funniest commercials I've seen. Fifty years ago and I still remember it.

People often ask me what type of commercials are my favorites and what or who inspires me to learn about the product commercial I am researching I would have to say "as I mentioned in my opening post on this thread' food commercials because they have a lot of tasty treats and one time my mom was seeing me researching a Dole Juice commercial and Mom said "Boy Hawkee I would really love some Dole Juice" and I had to smile. Another weird commercial story was when my mother came in while I was watching a Chef Boyardee commercial and Mom thought that Chef Boyardee was actually talking to her when he asked "May I Come In?" and she got shocked and I laughed. My other favorite genre of commercials are household cleaner commercials because they are so cleverly designed
Chocolate Moose thank you so much for your wonderful reply. Looks like you scored yourself a fan of mine. You are truly an amazing star and your spirit shines a lot
