Default What show is this?

1993 TV Guide Fall Preview (99.9% sure this is the Canadian edition). Cafe Americain, Frasier, and what’s the third one?

So Frasier went 11 seasons, Dave’s World went 4 seasons, and Cafe Americain went 18……episodes.

That seems wrong

I remember watching Dave's World in primetime. Always the missing piece of ceramic tile on the edge of the kitchen counter.

Cafe Americain had a double whammy of being on against a strong Dr. Quinn and airing on NBC Saturdays, which wouldn't have sitcoms much longer. NBC gave up on the night for good when the 90s finished. 1993- the last fall premiere season ever there was a 2 hour block of sitcoms on NBC Saturday nights. 1994 and 1995 were reduced to one hour, then all dramas for the last years of firstrun scripted Saturdays. Their Tuesday sitcoms were a disaster as well until Frasier moved to anchor the night. Cafe Americain might have had a better shot Tuesdays at 8:30 if they had moved Blossom to lead off the night instead of the not ready for primetime Saved by the Bell spin-off. Full House and Phenom were top 25 shows but a weaker hour to compete against than Roseanne and Coach.

CA started decently and even got a mini renewal from its initial order, but that was as far as it got.

From a story I posted on the CA board awhile ago….

>>>Though generally overlooked by critics this fall, "Cafe Americain" has been a modest success for NBC in a tough time slot. Opposite Jane Seymour's popular "Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman," Bertinelli & Co. have been finishing No. 2 in the time period. But among women 18 to 34, an audience advertisers love, "Cafe Americain" is No. 1 in its time slot. So NBC has renewed the series through next spring.<<<

When I first posted the whole article it was free but now it’s behind a paywall. But if anyone happens to have a subscription to the Chicago Tribune, here it is
