Default Around the Horn to end after 23 years

https://www.latimes.com/sports/story...on%20the%20air.

Around the Horn,” ESPN's long-running sports debate program with a game show twist, is coming to an end next year. The network will pull the plug on the show sometime during the summer of 2025, according to a source familiar with the decision but not authorized to discuss it publicly, after nearly 23 years on the air.

ESPN may expand Pardon the Interruption to one hour with cancelation of Around the Horn

"ESPN has made overtures to expand the long-running hit featuring Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon from a half-hour to an hour. Kornheiser, 76, and Wilbon, 66, have been kibitzing on the 30-minute show for nearly a quarter century," reports The Athletic's Andrew Marchand. "ESPN is still in the process of figuring out what it will do next in regards to the weekday 5 p.m. timeslot, but this is one of its top ideas. When reached, the network declined to comment." ESPN is expected to cancel Around the Horn next summer, though an official announcement has yet to be made.

ESPN officially cancels Around the Horn after 23 years

ESPN says that its weekday debate series Around the Horn will televise its final episode on May 23, after 23 years and more than 4,900 episodes. The 5 p.m. show, hosted by Tony Reali, sees a panel of sports commentators attempt to earn points from the host, or be muted if their takes aren't up to snuff.

Media insider says ESPN has ‘no room’ for ‘Around the Horn’

"There’s not room for them. There’s room for Stephen A, there’s room for McAfee, but...I just don’t think ESPN is interested in that kind of show."

ESPN reportedly considered a Shannon Sharpe-Stephen A. Smith show to fill Around the Horn's timeslot before Sharpe's hiatus

The Athletic's Andrew Marchand reports ESPN executives were considering Sharpe, who last month announced a hiatus after he was sued for sexual assault, joining a "potential Stephen A. Smith project" in Around the Horn's 5:30 p.m. ET timeslot.

Around the Horn's Tony Reali helped build ESPN’s voice over two decades: Why does it seem like he's getting the shaft?

Matt Barrie and Christine Williamson will anchor the 5 p.m. SportsCenter that will air before Pardon the Interruption. ALSO: Tony Reali explains why original Around the Horn host Max Kellerman wasn't part of the final episode.

Around the Horn's final episode was watched by 482,000 viewers

That's up from the average 362,000 viewers the Tony Reali-hosted ESPN show was getting in March and April.

Around the Horn’s Tony Reali announces he’s launching a new media company

Four months after the former ESPN star’s decades-long show ended, Reali said he’s launching a new Substack newsletter called “I Love Everything About This!” that will be part of his new media company. “For 25 years, I brought energy, joy, and debate to ESPN’s Around the Horn and PTI,” Reali writes. “Now I’m building The Real Ones Universe — a digital-first home where highlights meet heartlight. The mission? To make sports + life content faster, smarter, more authentic, and community-driven.”

ESPN may move Scott Van Pelt to Around the Horn’s old timeslot

ESPN president of content Burke Magnus confirmed to The Athletic that Van Pelt, who hosts the late-night SportsCenter, is a candidate for the 5 p.m. ET timeslot, which is sandwiched between NFL Live and Pardon the Interruption. Other candidates include Peter Schrager and Brian Windhorst.
