In watching this show I've been overlooking things such as the phonograph and other inventions not existing yet because those are all part of the steampunk fun, but this one contained a huge error so glaring it was unforgivable. In "The Night of the Infernal Machine," Artie, in the guise of a chef, is ordered to make a cake of the Statue of Liberty. It is still 1874 here, 1875 at the latest. Construction on the Statue of Liberty did not even begin until 1876. The poem by Emma Lazarus, "The New Colossus," which is shown and quoted, was written in 1883 to raise money for the statue, which was not completed until 1886.
On the plus side, all the music used in the patriotic medley was correct for the period, even if the costuming was questionable, but I can't overlook the Statue of Liberty gaffe...sorry. |
