Anyone remember the episode titled The Last Stow It? It was the two part episode where Mel decides to retire, so he sells the diner to Randolph Briggs, played by Hans Conreid. Alice, Flo and Vera stay on as waitresses and the disciplinarian Briggs later fires them. In part two, Alice dresses up as mobster Sam Butler to get Mel to buy back the diner.
One thing I remember about the episode is that Briggs changes the name of the place from Mel's Diner to Randolph's Rendezvous. |

Yes I remember it, "I don't employee any woman who tells me to kiss her grits!" lol It had another one of those silly TV tropes, Someone can put on a disguise, hat/wig, glasses, fake mustache, and NO ONE recognizes them, not even their close friends! lol Alice even fooled Mel with that disguise once lol Once we were out of town and we decided to drop in on some near by relatives by surprise, and I was going fool them by wearing sunglasses, BIG hat, overcoat, most everything about me that was recognizable was covered yet they recognized me right away! |

I can see Briggs possibly not recognizing Alice, but he should have known it was Vera.
![]() This two-part episode also featured an abridged version of the original theme song/version, which was a welcome treat after the new one debuted at the start of season 3. |
