We know he was a professor at UCLA, and she went to the beach all the time.
Does the show ever say what area that she lived in? Do they ever say how long it takes for her to get to the beach? What about the name of the beach she went to? Thanks |

Rich and famous people live there. Not sure how much college proffesors make ? I don't think it's as much as an actor, doctor or lawyers salary ? Maybe back in the 60's a Malibu beach house would be more affordable ?

So they come out and say Malibu? Do you remember which episode?
I was thinking that if the show was in the 60s, the dad would have bought the house in the 50s when things were cheaper. Plus, it would have been before the 65-immigration act which started immigration up again so he wouldn't have had to compete with the whole world for a job or have land prices rise so much. Okay, thanks. I wonder if Gidget's house would have caught on fire with all the fires. I couldn't find the exact salary of a UCLA professor in the 60s, but I did find an article about a college that was thought to be too low. Maybe double the low salary to $8,000? https://blogs.baylor.edu/hesabaylorh...lor-1951-1960/ |

Ring a ding dingbat says she lives in Bel Aire. Nice digs for Gidget.
Come to find out, that land was once considered worthless and was given away before WW2. Here is a video from when it burned down in the 60s. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxnC1WW95XE |

Now I am confused.
Take a Lesson Gidget tells her dad she is going to her friend's house a few blocks away in her pajamas. When they all get in the car, she says that in a few minutes they were on the San Diego freeway headed to Pasadena. How could that be? |

It's probably supposed to be Malibu, but it may never be mentioned and is probably never clear.
It's pretty typical for a Screen Gems show. The only one I know of that had a real and definite location was I Dream of Jeannie. In Hazel and Dennis the Menace, no city or state is even mentioned. |

Grok knows all kinds of things.
Where did Gidget from TV live In the 1965–1966 TV series Gidget, Frances "Gidget" Lawrence lives in Santa Monica, California, with her widowed father, Russell Lawrence, a UCLA English professor. The show, starring Sally Field, portrays Gidget as a 15-year-old surfer girl who spends much of her time at the beach, reflecting the Southern California surf culture. While the series doesn't always specify exact addresses, the setting is consistently described as Santa Monica, with filming locations including Blondie Street, Columbia/Warner Bros. Ranch in Burbank and Stage 11, Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City for Gidget's room. The beach scenes, central to the show’s vibe, were inspired by real-life Malibu beaches, though specific filming often used studio sets or nearby locations like Leo Carrillo State Beach (noted in the 1959 film). |
