Why was Hang Time even made?

Following the successes of Saved By The Bell and California Dreams I think Peter Engel knew what fame he would get as "the father of the teen sitcom" But why did he decide to create a basketball oriented sitcom and name it Hang Time? Because when you look at it Hang Time sounds like a term for hanging out at home and a better name would've been Slam Dunk for this sitcom and I mainly think when Hang Time really took off was when Anthony Anderson joined the cast and due to Hang Time Anthony became a huge household name in TV and Amber Baretto later was in The OC. Why I think Hang Time lasted so long was because NBC had hoped it would be a big hit like Saved By The Bell was and have the same staying power as California Dreams did. But what I think caused the show to go downhill was the changing of the theme song and the intros because Hang Time's first theme song was cool but when they changed it they ruined it and the new intro was also weird as well. I don't know why Tubi doesn't air Hang Time and they should add it to Tubi because it was a great sitcom that deserves to be aired in reruns again
