Default Happy 88 to Game Show Producer Reg Grundy

Hey guys,

Reginald Roy Grundy better known as simply Reg Grundy celebrates his 88th Birthday this week

Reg Grundy is an Australian TV Producer who has produced so many successful Game Shows Around the World, but in the USA, he is best known for producing such shows as the following:

$ale of the Century w/The Original Host of Card Sharks Jim Perry
SCRABBLE w/The Original Host of Wheel of Fortune Chuck Woolery
Time Machine w/Hollywood Square John Davidson
Bruce Forsyth's Hot Streak w/British Comedian Bruce Forsyth
Scattergories w/TV Icon Dick Clark
Small Talk w/Wil Shriner

In 1995, he sold the Grundy Organisation to the media and publishing company, Pearson PLC, now FremantleMedia.

He is married to actress and author Joy Chambers (his wife of 40 years) who has appeared in several of his soaps and they currently live in Bermuda

He also has a daughter name Kim

He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the New Years Honours of 1983 and was made a Companion of the Order of Australia in the Queen's Birthday Honours of 2008

In July 2004 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy by the University of Queensland

Colloquially, in Australia, "Reg Grundies", or "Grundies" is rhyming slang slang for "undies" (underpants)

He was the owner of a yacht named Boadicea

Since 1995 Grundy has indulged in his life-long passion of wildlife photography. Grundy published a book of photographs in 2005, "The Wildlife of Reg Grundy" and in June 2009, an exhibition of photographs of Bermuda Longtail fish by Grundy, "Longtails: The Bermuda Dream", opened in The Rick Faries Gallery at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art

Grundy owns 29% of Photon, an Australian based advertising, marketing and e-commerce group

Happy Birthday to ya Reg Grundy, God Bless You mate and Thank You for giving us some of the most exciting Game Shows on Television

I'd like to call Reg Grundy the Australian version of Mark Goodson. While Goodson had Match Game, Grundy had Blankety Blanks.

My favorite Grundy shows are Sale of the Century and Scrabble. Although the Jim Perry version of SOTC is easily the most recognizable of all the versions, the show actually began in 1969. It was creadted by Al "Supermarket Sweep" Howard, and was hosted by Jack Kelly, and then later by Joe Garagiola. It lasted until 1974. Reg Grundy brought the format in 1980. The Australian version ran from 1980-2001, while the Jim Perry version ran from 1983-1989, so the Jim Perry version that we know and love was actually an American adaptation of an Australian revival of an American game show.

Sale came back in 2005 in Australia as Temptation and while that show was good, and lasted until 2009, the American version, on the other hand, not so much.

Well my favorites are $ale of the Century, SCRABBLE (The 80's Version) and Bruce Forsyth Hot Streak

Time Machine was pretty good and that's the only John Davidson Hosted Game Show that I like

The '93 version of SCRABBLE was good, but adding the money to the Jackpot @ the end was a HUGE Mistake

Scattergories was OK, but the payoffs were cheap and Small Talk was just, meh

$1500 as a total Cash Prize?

No wonder it stunk

and as for Temptation: The New $ale of the Century....PLEASE Don't get me started on that

and yes, Reg Grundy was like The Mark Goodson of The Land Down Under

It's too bad that GSN doesn't have the Reg Grundy Library

I wish that either TBS, USA, WGN or some other network bring this Library Back
