I'd like to call Reg Grundy the Australian version of Mark Goodson. While Goodson had Match Game, Grundy had Blankety Blanks.
My favorite Grundy shows are Sale of the Century and Scrabble. Although the Jim Perry version of SOTC is easily the most recognizable of all the versions, the show actually began in 1969. It was creadted by Al "Supermarket Sweep" Howard, and was hosted by Jack Kelly, and then later by Joe Garagiola. It lasted until 1974. Reg Grundy brought the format in 1980. The Australian version ran from 1980-2001, while the Jim Perry version ran from 1983-1989, so the Jim Perry version that we know and love was actually an American adaptation of an Australian revival of an American game show. Sale came back in 2005 in Australia as Temptation and while that show was good, and lasted until 2009, the American version, on the other hand, not so much. |

Well my favorites are $ale of the Century, SCRABBLE (The 80's Version) and Bruce Forsyth Hot Streak
Time Machine was pretty good and that's the only John Davidson Hosted Game Show that I like The '93 version of SCRABBLE was good, but adding the money to the Jackpot @ the end was a HUGE Mistake Scattergories was OK, but the payoffs were cheap and Small Talk was just, meh $1500 as a total Cash Prize? No wonder it stunk and as for Temptation: The New $ale of the Century....PLEASE Don't get me started on that and yes, Reg Grundy was like The Mark Goodson of The Land Down Under It's too bad that GSN doesn't have the Reg Grundy Library I wish that either TBS, USA, WGN or some other network bring this Library Back |
