Kay Cooper, a bubbly entertainer known as Kay Arnold who had television roles on "Roseanne" and "As the World Turns," died last Tuesday at The Valley Hospital. She was 72 and a longtime resident of Paramus.

The cause was cancer, according to her brother. Bob Arnold said his sister hadn't been feeling well and checked into the hospital four days before her death.

A singer, dancer and actress, Mrs. Cooper performed in New York City through the Episcopal Actors Guild, a non-profit that assists performers in need; the Lambs, a theatrical club; and the Dutch Treat Club, an arts organization. She was active in all three and was treasurer of the Dutch Treat Club.

She also belonged to the Woman's Club of Paramus and its tap dance troupe, which performs at hospitals and nursing homes.

"Kay was vibrant and full of joy, and her laugh was infectious," said her friend Leslie Shreve, a makeup artist who served on the Episcopal Actors Guild board with Mrs. Cooper. "She was a generous person and a generous performer."

Mrs. Cooper, a native of Iowa, was the aunt of comedian Tom Arnold, who was married to Roseanne Barr, star of "Roseanne," in the early '90s. During that time, Kay Arnold, as she was credited, played the mistress of the father of Barr's character.

"RIP Kay Arnold Cooper," Tom Arnold said on Twitter last week. "My aunt survived losing her man, showbiz and B. Madoff but cigs got her. Kay killed it as Roseanne's father's mistress."

Bob Arnold confirmed that his sister was a victim of Bernard Madoff's massive investment fraud.

"She didn't let it be known to many people, but it was very disturbing to her," he said. "That really was one of the toughest things she ever had to deal with."

Mrs. Cooper didn't wallow in her bad fortune, Shreve said.

"Her husband died and left this beautiful house, and she thought she was set for life. Then came Madoff," Shreve said.

"Kay had to go to work as a substitute teacher in Paramus, but she did it with the same loving and generous spirit she approached everything in life with. She loved those kids and was proud of their achievements. They were lucky to have her as a substitute."

Mrs. Cooper's husband, William Cooper, a documentary film producer and a WPIX-TV vice president, died in 1987. She is survived by her brothers, Bob Arnold and Jack Arnold, and nephews and nieces.

I just watched " Wait till your Father gets home" today on Cozi TV. For some reason I googled the actress. I didn't know till today she was Tom Arnold's Aunt. Pretty lady and a good actress!
