Danielle actually picked that name for her character after seeing the real Stephanie Mills in Wiz. She was never a star but was fairly well known to the public, in large part because this week in 1980, she was all over American Top 40 with Never Knew Love Like This Before.

Wow , that is interesting ! I didn't know that . I thought AITF just randomly named her that . I did think when watching in reruns , wow ! Stephanie Mills, same name as the singer. I love that song " I never knew love like this before" !

Stephanie was only on 1 year (Season 9) of AITF.....

That was my misreading of IMDb. I saw ‘78 and ‘79 so I wrote two seasons but it was just the one usual season spread out over 2 calendar years.

I was going to ask if Danielle and Stephanie ever met, but I listened to a bit of the Spotify thing you first linked before switching and as of whenever they recorded that the answer was no.

I do agree w/her that Connie was kinda a strange name for a young woman. Dated, even by 1978 standards.
