Valerie Bertinelli is celebrity grand marshal for Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Actress Valerie Bertinelli is set to come to Arkansas as she joins the first-ever 22nd Annual World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Hot Springs next year.

Parade officials named Bertinelli as the celebrity grand marshal for the parade on March 17, 2025.

Visit Hot Springs CEO and parade founder Steve Arrison said Bertinelli may be a familiar face to those who have seen her on several shows, including “One Day at a Time,” “Touched by an Angel” and “Hot in Cleveland.”

“Valerie Bertinelli will be a great grand marshal for our gigantic, little parade,” Arrison said. “She appeals to just about everyone, from those who watched her as a youngster on ‘One Day at a Time’ to those who came to know her as a best-selling author of cookbooks to those who saw her on the hit show ‘Hot in Cleveland.’”

It wasn't going to be a TV parade but now I figure it'll be simulcast on every network. All 98 feet of it. I figure at least a five hour time slot.

Italian, not Irish.

If you look back at past grand marshals of this thing you'll see Irish isn't a prerequisite. For instance I doubt Cheech Marin (of Cheech and Chong) is Irish.

And the way they market this as being a parade that's only 98 feet long and as the 1st Ever 22nd Annual World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade shows they have a sense of humor about the whole event.

Hot in Spa City: Valerie Bertinelli Makes Her Hot Springs Debut for Parade

AY ABOUT YOU: Let’s start with the World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Hot Springs. What made you want to try that?

VALERIE BERTINELLI: They called and invited me, and I just thought that was the sweetest thing in the world. I don’t think I’ve ever been a grand marshal of a parade before, so I think it’ll be a lot of fun.

AY: Have you ever been to Hot Springs before?

BERTINELLI: I don’t think I have. I mean, I’ve been so many places, I’m not sure. I know I’ve been to Arkansas, but I don’t know if I’ve been to Hot Springs.

AY: What are you looking forward to the most being a grand marshall?

BERTINELLI: Oh, just seeing everybody, seeing all their smiling faces and everybody having a good time on St. Patty’s Day. I think I’m 16 percent Irish, so I always like to enjoy St. Patrick’s Day, and [my son], Wolfie, was almost born on St. Patrick’s Day. He was born the day before, so I have a special place in my heart for this particular holiday. I also have a brother named Patrick, so there you go.

AY: Bertinelli does not sound exactly Irish. What else do you claim, ancestrally?

BERTINELLI: I’m Irish, English and Italian on my dad’s side. He’s full-blown Italian. My mom was English and Irish.
