When I used to watch Newsradio I seemed to think that it was similar to WKRP In Cincinnati and it makes me think that Paul Simms got inspired to create Newsradio from WKRP In Cincinnati. Because if you watch Newsradio reruns you can see that it's essentially a 90's version of WKRP In Cincinnati but set in New York and the station is named WNYX
Do you think Newsradio was the 90's version of WKRP In Cincinnati? |

I don't know. There are obvious similarities. I think that people who make shows are very reluctant to say that they copied stuff from other shows.

No. In fact, in the DVD commentary, Paul Simms stated that he never really cared for WKRP in Cincinnati. Sitcoms he mentioned being a fan of were Barney Miller and Taxi.
NewsRadio is my favorite sitcom of all-time and I've never liked WKRP in Cincinnati. Recently I got wondering if I don't like WKRP because it's always being compared to NewsRadio and often more people prefer it to NewsRadio. Maybe I got bitter over the years about that. But then I remembered. I never liked WKRP, even before NewsRadio ever existed. |
