Default Two season 4 eps that had odd situations

Episode Old Folks at Home

Why is Jack sleeping in his bed with a strange old man instead of sleeping on the couch?

Episode Root of all Evil

Why did it matter to Jack and Chrissy what the hell she spent her money on? Didnt they split the money to do whatever they wanted? So if she spent it on something stupid it didnt take away from their money so why was it a big deal? lol

They did split some money. But they agreed to go to a bank to put away 3 months rent in an account with all their names on it. Jack asks for the bank book to take money out to get a jogging suit. That was why each was mad at each other. They were all taking money out of the bank for trivial things.

I am probably older than you. Back then there were no ATM machines. When you had a bank account you got a bank book. You could take a receipt out of that book and go to the bank to withdraw money. You would also use the same book to make a deposit.
In the episode Jack asks "who has the bank book" when he was going to buy his jogging suit.
But you bring up a good point. A younger generation may not understand that.

I can still remember my first ATM use in 1989. I was a teenager working at a grocery store. It was so weird to walk up to a machine with a card and get money. Many were suspicious of them which is why we got endless sitcom episodes about them in the mid 80s. Alice, Mamas Family, Threes Company, and other shows all had the infamous ATM episode.

I had issues with atms in 2010's. I put my card in to make a withdrawal and the receipt came out saying I got the money but the money never came out lol
