The Facts Of Life is done and has been replaced by The Odd Couple as of today. There are a few other shows that are also close to the end that have about one season or less still to go. This is where the retro shows are at as of today:

10:00 AM Matlock - Almost over, thankfully. It will be replaced by "The Dick Van Dyke Show" at 10:00 am and the first of 2 "Lucy Show" episodes at 10:30 on May 30, which is a week from tomorrow.

11:00 Brady Bunch - Season 2

11:30 Danny Thomas Show - There are 10 episodes left in Season 10 before the final season begins. The series should end close to 2 months from now.

12:00 PM Pictionary - This show stinks! Let's move on.

1:00 The Love Boat - Season 3 will start on Monday.

2:00 Dynasty - Season 6

3:00 Lucy Show - 2nd of 2 episodes. It will replace "Hogan's Heroes" on Tuesday.

3:30 The Odd Couple - Began today!

4:00 Family Ties - Season 7 (Final Season) - It will end in about a month from now.

4:30 Three's Company - Season 8 (Final Season) - 14 episodes left. 3 weeks to go before it ends.

5:00 Cheers - Season 8 of 11

5:30 Newsradio - Season 3 of 5

So that's how things stand for now. I'll have more updates in a few weeks when some of these shows will end.

Somthing's happening at CHCH. As of Friday June 7 "The Danny Thomas Show," "The Love Boat" and "Dynasty" are gone, replaced as follows by "Silver Spoons," an hour of "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and an hour of"Family Ties." "The Lucy Show" at 3pm has been replaced by "The Facts of Life." "Mad About You" replaces "Cheers" at 5pm.And most of the shows that are airing are in the middle of the series - it's all too strange.

Anybody have any info or theories on what's going on?

I think I have some idea. Friday, June 7 will mark CHCH's official 70th anniversary. The station went on the air on June 7, 1954 as a CBC affiliate before becoming an independent station in 1961, which it has remained ever since, except for a brief time in the 1990s when it was part of Global. I fully expect this to be a one-time only schedule. The real mystery is why they picked those particular episodes. I would have expected something more creative rather than all of these shows just thrown together like that. It just seems disappointing to me.

Ah, okay, so it would have something to do with CHCH's anniversary.

Looking at the episodes chosen and having this important bit of information, maybe there is a common thread in the shows chosen. They seem to all involve working in TV or film, being in a TV studio, making movies or producing a show.

Good for a one time event, I suppose, and back to the regular schedule on Monday - hopefully.

While we wait for summer to begin, CHCH unveiled their fall preview video yesterday which, in typical fashion, showed you a lot, but unveiled very little. No schedule has been announced yet (don't hold your breath) but here's what I learned from the very brief retro highlights that it displayed:

Returning to CHCH this summer and fall: The Love Boat, The Lucy Show, Hogan's Heroes, The Odd Couple, NewsRadio, and I Dream Of Jeannie.

New addition: The Avengers, the classic original British spy series from the 1960s, starring Patrick Macnee and Diana Rigg.

What it didn't show: Pictionary, that awful game show with Jerry O' Connell as the host. If you pray hard enough, you may find a couple of good retro series in its spot.

CHCH Fall 2024 Video

One last programming note: Starting this weekend, "Dynasty" will be the only retro series that will have extra airings, appearing at 1:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays along with its regular weekday time of 2:00 pm. While this seems awful at first, the good news is that it should now end sooner and will then mercifully be replaced by something better.

All those "retro" shows they featured (except for "The Avengers") are currently on CHCH or have recently ended, so does it even mean anything for fall, and should it? I really hope they add new or at least different shows to the line up. I remember last year when CHCH claimed that "Newsradio" & "The Lucy Show" would air in the fall and then they didn't start airing until the following year.

But no more "Pictionary" would be great, as long as it's not replaced by another game show.

So that's how things stand for now. I'll have more updates in a few weeks when some of these shows will end.
It appears now that the shows I mentioned that will end soon are about to end sooner than I thought. What I mean is that "The Lucy Show" will not be the only series that will get the double play treatment in the next couple of weeks. This is because "Three's Company" will be ending next Tuesday June 11 with a special 1-hour finale. The next day, (June 12), "Family Ties" will be airing back-to-back episodes at 4 and 4:30 pm and will continue doing so until their own series finale happens on Tuesday June 18 at 4:00. This will be followed by "Cheers", which has their own double play going on at 4:30 and 5:00, but only for one day. That's because on Wed. the 19th, there will finally be something new at the 4:00 and 4:30 pm slots. It will be "The Avengers", which I had figured would not start until the fall. I guess they couldn't wait. This is something that I wasn't expecting at all. Look for more surprises to happen as the fall gets closer.

Never would have guessed "The Avengers" would replace "Family Ties" and "Three's Company." I had many shows in mind, but not that one.

Wonder how many seasons they'll air, since it seems CHCH is starting with season 2,episode 1, skipping season 1 completely.

UPDATE: Bad news for fans of "NewsRadio" and the daytime retro block. Starting on holiday Monday, July 1st, "NewsRadio" will leave the schedule and will be replaced by another edition of "Trending Now", CHCH's local entertainment and Hollywood gossip show, hosted by the lovely Nicole Martin, at 5:30 pm as well as its normal time slot at 7:00 pm. That makes 2 shows within 90 minutes, interrupted at 6 by the news. This does not bode well for any future changes. The next series that is scheduled to leave and get replaced is "The Danny Thomas Show", now in the midst of its final season. That will happen right away after about a week. The final episode will be on Tuesday, July 16. The next day, "The Brady Bunch" will begin Season 4 and becomes the latest lucky series to get the double play treatment. It will have 2 episodes running back to back at 11 and 11:30 am until it ends sometime in August. That should be around the time that the new fall schedule could be announced. I would look for "I Dream Of Jeannie" to take over one of those time slots once the Bradys leave but I wouldn't rule out another surprise entry to show up instead.

One thing that is surprising for me in a pleasant way is that CHCH is beginning to open up the weekends in small segments to allow for more retro series to show up. I have already told you about "Dynasty" appearing there at 1:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. This month, it will be joined by "Cheers". It will be on Saturdays at 12 noon and Sundays at 12 and 12:30 pm. For some peculiar reason, the 12:30 spot on Saturdays is being left open for paid programming. That likely means that "Cheers" won't be back in the fall or they would have let it end much later.

Hello everyone, I’m new here, I would like to say that I’m pretty sure that Newsradio fans are unhappy that cut from CHCH and replacing Trending now, it make no sense stopping the series in middle of season 4 Newsradio. It a concern if CHCH might goes to a major changes in the fall schedule. Hopefully retro classic return continues in the fall.

It just makes no sense that they would stop playing Newsradio. They promoted it and everything. You would figure the people at CHCH were fans of the show.

There must be some reason, but we’re probably not going to find out.

Guess it’s very unlikely they will bring it back in the future!

They might come back, however a few years ago CHCH did the same thing with The Love Boat. It stopped in the middle of season 5 and was replaced with Hawaii Five 0. The Love Boat has 8 or 9 seasons total. The Love Boat was brought back this year. So who knows maybe they will bring back NewsRadio sooner or later. But the question is can CHCH finish the series with The Love Boat by doing all 8 or 9 seasons? Time will tell.

I would love to see something different this fall like Dallas, TJ Hooker, Police Woman, Streets of San Francisco, Kojak, Rich Man Poor Man and many more. As for Comedy shows, All in the Family, Welcome Back Kotter, Mary Tyler Moore, Growing Pains, Full House, Step by Step, Newhart and many more. I would love to see the return of Matlock, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, and I Dream of Jeannie. Many more for sure.

Just saw the Fall Media Kit for CHCH and the retro shows are typical, nothing new, Matlock is back and most of the same shows that CHCH always airs (Hogan's Heroes, I Dream of Jeannie, Laverne and Shirley, The Facts of Life - nothing new and 1 hour tbd) but the good news is that Pictionary is out, replaced by The Avengers.

I'm sure someone will post a thread about it soon, but in the meantime here's a link to the kit.

I'll have it on later today - right after "The Brady Bunch" is done!
