Default Weekend Binge has started - I'm wondering from looking at the opening credits was it

ever explained why Bob didnt drive? From looking at the opening credits looks like he has a long commute and was wondering with the money he had why was he catching the train and doing all that walking

No, they never explained it.

Both MTM shows. They may have thought putting Bob in a car was too similar to MTM's original opening.

Bob Newhart talked about the opening credits with Conan O'Brien in 2017.

People in Chicago gave him a hard time about the opening of the show. He missed his stop and had to walk back about 55 blocks to their apartment.

Maybe Im slow but I dont understand what is he is saying about why chicago people gave him a hard time. Initially I thought it had something to do with regular people trying to catch the train. But I dont understand the 55 block statement

People gave him a hard time because he was born in Oak Park, Illinois. He grew up in the Chicago area.

You probably have to live in Chicago to fully understand it. It was just a very long commute he had to make every weekday.
