Sold my car about five years ago and since then I haven't found a need buy another car for transportation. I live near city center and I can go pretty much anywhere using public transportation, including going to work, buy grocery or Dr. appointments. I work for a university and as a school employee get a free bus pass, so my transportation cost is practically zero.

Car payments, insurance, gas and car up-keeping can get expensive and figuring I am saving about $600 a month by not owning a car. Ofcourse riding a bus does have its down sides such as waiting in any kind of weather or putting up with crowd in rush hour, but overall well worth it.

I had a Subaru Forester car for almost 17 years but as time went on I was paying money to have various problems fixed. It was really starting to fall apart so got rid of the car . . Since then drove my brothers cars which I really didn't like. Then my left eye has problems. Now I am considering taking the bus. Now the temperture is hot so have put off going out. My brother takes me a few places.

Not me. I love to explore and just get out of town once a week. Maybe if my health was failing, but until then. Happy motoring.

I usually don't like asking people or family member to give a me ride as it gets old pretty quick as they have their things to do. I usually call Uber or if it is an emergency, a cab. Luckily I am walking distance to a bus depot, so 99% of time I won't need a ride.

Some people don't live close to a bus routes, so they got to have a car to get around. But if you live close to a bus route, you can use bus on weekdays, and use the car for your weekends runs. That is what I did when I had a car

Way back when I was in my 20s, I could change out an entire headlight assembly (not just a bulb) on my car by myself at a cost of $5 total. The latest parts I had put into my current car at a pro repair shop cost me over $500. Owning a car can be a drain on your savings, I haven't even mentioned registration, oil changes, & fuel.

I think sometime in the future I'd like to give up the car; I live close to a Farmers Market and a small supermarket. A medical clinic is also in walking distance, although I hate that one. And even now I buy most of my books online. Also I like bicycling but have gotten away from it.

But as long as I belong to a charitable organization that requires my travel, and I make an all-too-infrequent Church visit miles away, for now it's fire up the Batmobile.

They don't make cars like they use to do where you can take it to a shade tree mechanic and get it fix for cheap. Now days car have so many computerized sensors and gadgets that car dealers are the only place you can it take to to get it fix. And they usually charge you a pretty penny.

I'm always on the bus ! I was practically born on the bus, LOL ! My Mom didn't drive and we lived in Philly , we either took the bus , the El train or walked everywhere unless my Dad drove us. But getting around day to day , it was Mom and us kids on the bus.

So now living in LA , we only have one car , so I'm on the bus a lot . Depending on my schedule or what I need to do that day , I'm an in home caregiver , so if I need the car to help the elderly lady shop or take her to a Dr. Appointment I use the car and Hub takes the bus to work. And other days he takes the car to work and I bus it.

I don't mind at all, I like the bus and took it all my life, although these days it can be kind of hectic, some people on the bus can be a bit crazy!

Growing up we didn't have a car. My father never owned a car and my mother never drove. From the time I was about eleven I was taking the subway and buses alone. I grew up on the subway and even though I hardly ever take it now, I still have a subway map in my head. My father used to try to dissuade me from buying a car. But, of course I wanted one and now can't imagine being without one.

I stopped taking the bus in 2020, a couple months before the Pandemic started. I got a parking permit in a garage close to my office.

I don't miss the bus.
