A quote from "Backstory" Peyton Place:
I thought..gee maybe I've got a chance here to..uh...get out of the role of..uh...of David Nelson, Ricky's older brother. And uh..by the time I got through with the role I realized what they had cast was David Nelson, Ricky Nelson's older brother in the part." I was rewatching the movie last night and I think he's right. His character even wants to be a lawyer. David was terrific though and it's nice seeing him in color as teenager. This documentary is one of the special features on the Peyton Place (1957) DVD. |

Yeah, I think Dave's comments there are spot-on. Maybe they should've given Ricky a role in the film, too, and included a couple of rock and roll numbers
I haven't seen Dave's other movies, there was one called "The Circus" or something like that. I've seen him do his trapeze act on O&H but I can't find "The Circus" movie anywhere.

I've bumped up this old thread because "Movies!" is airing Peyton Place (1957 film) right now. I think David was just out of his teens when it was produced.
