Default The Narrator on the "This Program is About Unsolved Mysteries"

This is annoying the hell out of me lol.. Who is that narrator, that did the disclaimer at the beginning of the episodes...... NOT THE DUDE that does the something on the Filmrise versions on youtube... I am talking about the old school dude that did them on the NBC run.. This dude did all types of promos for NBC and other people back in the day, and I can't find out who he was.. This is the dude on an old promo.

It is Danny Dark, and not only was he the narrator of the opening of UM, he was also the voice of Superman in my beloved Challenge of the Super Friends cartoons (and all other iterations of the Super Friends show from the 1970s-1980s).

Also begs the question: Who was the woman who did the same narration during the later NBC run?

There was no narration for the NBC run after the Danny Dark voice over was removed. I think you mean the woman that did it for the Lifetime run. She was probably just some random staffer. I watched soooo many episodes of UM on that channel that her voice is engrained in my brain as much as Dark's.

I always wondered why they used the woman on Lifetime. I am guessing Dark's contract only allowed for his voice to be used on NBC. Things like that always intrigue me.

There is of course the man that does the voiceover for the Film Rise versions of the early episodes, but he has the voice of a tax accountant.

In the mid-1990s (if also not before or after), Lifetime billed itself as "Television for women."

I also have this vague memory of, during the credits of whatever TV show Lifetime immediately aired before each night's episode of "Unsolved Mysteries," the same female narrator who voiced "UM's" opening could be heard saying "Use your woman's instinct to help you solve a crime."

None of this helps us figure out who the female narrator was, but perhaps explains why a woman was used in that opening and the male narrator was dropped.

His voice is kind of iconic because he narrated commercial previews and ending credits on NBC throughout the late 80's. And he always changed his tone depending on the type of show. If he was previewing a family sitcom, his tone was happy and upbeat. He'd lower his voice if he was previewing a drama. And when he narrated the UM disclaimer and the "If you have any information on a segment you've seen tonight, please call 1-800-876-5353...you need not leave your name," he sounded very serious.

If you watched TV in the 80's, you know that voice.

Yep, when I create my definitive edition of UM, I'm using the original narration in place of the Filmrise crap.

Ha, well by my estimate that should be in 2097. So hopefully I'm still alive
