Default Mayberry’s common things seen once

Name something that was addressed on an episode as if it were an ordinary thing in Mayberry, but it was never before it appeared the first time. This can be a person, place, thing, or event. It could even be a custom that people seemed to practice in one episode but didn’t seem to care about any other time. Sometimes it became a regular after the first appearance, and sometimes it was never seen again. I’ll start.

Dolly the horse. In this episode, everyone talks about how odd it will be to not see Dolly pulling the dairy cart anymore, it they hadn’t been seen or mentioned before, nor did we see the new delivery truck and Dolly again.

The City worker is only seen once that I remember.

I think we only see a doctor once.

In "The Bed Jacket," we learn that Andy has a favorite fishing pole; he even keeps it mounted on the living room wall. Of course, fishing is a big thing among the guys in Mayberry, but we didn't know Andy had such a special fishing pole until then, and I don't believe it was mentioned again.

Howard Sprague.
Howard Sprague recurred and was in 38 episodes. That is hardly a seen once person.

Yeah, I just deleted the post. I may have put it in the wrong thread is the only thing I could figure.

Since I started the thread, I would like to amend it a bit. After giving it some thought, It's ok if it is mentioned after a first appearance as long as it had never been seen or mentioned before the first time. Howard would certainly fit in to that category. He suddenly appears in the color seasons as a friend who went to school with Andy, and they suddenly start seeing a lot of each other, yet he was never mentioned before.

Oh, that makes sense. Sam Jones would qualify for that, too, although he appeared in only a few episodes, not counting Mayberry RFD.

How about "Old Sam," the legendary silver carp fish Howard caught -- and Floyd claimed he hooked him once, though the fish had never been mentioned before. And never again afterward, following being on display and (spoilers) being returned to the lake, all in one episode.
