There are a few goofy/silly themes with her, but to me, she seems way too old, way too perfect for her age group.
Also, she is shown as being very feminine. Any idea whose idea was for that? Kathy's or a producer. |

And in later seasons , she even looks older for her age. Her hairstyles were more for a woman in her mid 20's or 30's than a teenage girl.

Okay, yes, she said to Uncle Bill that Buffy did not have mom or dad or herself to reach out to. So she is including herself as a caretaker.

Especially in the sense that Cissy didn't display tomboy tendencies, I will agree that the character was portrayed as quite feminine.
Another reason that character type comes across is because Cissy was practically always dressed in young women's fashions, in dresses early on, as opposed to more casual or unisex attire. So I think the wardrobe people had a lot to do with the shaping of our perception of the character. Even when wearing pants much later on, her look was accompanied by women's accessories like scarves. I found it interesting in one episode she states something to the effect of "I hate my hair!," so the writers displayed an awareness of a young woman's concerns as to appearance. I also agree that her short hairstyle later on made a dramatic difference in her looking older. I remember when a classmate of mine made a very, very similar change in the 8th grade. I was practically astonished at how different she looked, from a shoulder-length style to short with ringlets. |
