I'm watching the 12am episode on Fox Family and found a glaring error, particulary for Cardinal fans! The man that Angela is dating recognizes Tony as the second basemen for the Cardinals in 1980 who wore number 14. Out of all the numbers they could have picked, number 14 was not the one to pick (at least they weren't stupid enough to pick 6-Musial's number). 14 is a retired Cardinal's number that belonged to Kenny Boyer who played in the 50s and 60s. I wasn't sure if 14 had been retired yet, but Boyer managed the Cardinals at this time so I looked it up in my book and he had managed the Cardinals for part of 1980 before being fired. I think Boyer, a Cardinal legend, would have some precedence over some rookie brought up to play from the minor leagues, especially since when the Cardinals brought Joe Torre to manage Terry Pendleton had to give his number 9 up in favor of Torre. Why didn't the writers at least do a little bit of research to find out what the RETIRED numbers were? I haven't picked up on the Cardinal inconsistencies in this show before, but that one error was just absurd. My Dad's already asleep, but he would know when Boyer's 14 was retired so I'll ask him tomorrow and find out just how stupid the writers were for that baseball fact! Oh, it's no accident that 14 is in my screen name either!!

Oh well, despite the people who made the show's lack of reasearch I still like the show as much as before.

I guess this is sorta a baseball inconsistancy...in the show Tony has two different "numbers" that he claims he wore in the majors. It seems like the uniform he wears in that reunion ep has a different number than he mentions in another ep. Is there one where Sam gets a uniform and it's Tony's number backwards? (like she got 24 and his was 42)

Since the subject of baseball has already been proached, was
it ever established how long Tony played in the Majors? |

I know players change their number often (esp baseball these days) but I don't think that's what happened here. I think it's more like people said up thread where the writer's were just inconsistent. It's also possible during the reunion ep another more prominent player had No. 24 so Tony needed to choose another No. It'd be nice if we could ask the writer's for an official answer, but I'm sure they don't even know what it is. |
