In some episodes you see "Arnold Nooper" comic books sold in Herbert T. Gillis's store;
to find out more information, I entered "Nooper" into the Grand Comics Database at comics.org and it returned "No results," although a bunch of results did show up when I instead entered "Dobie Gillis." You would think the GCD would have more information on a popular character like Arnold Nooper- Barbara Eden's character Loco on the "How To Marry A Millionaire" series seems to be a really big fan- And Arnold's comic books seem to be sold far and wide- not only are they sold in Herbert's store, they are also sold on Gotham City, too. (from the Batman episode "The Joker's Epitaph," and this time in color) Only thing is, they seem to have printed only one issue! (all three shows were 20th Century Fox productions) |

I've contributed to the GCD for many years. The reason we have nothing on Arnold Nooper is because the character never existed in ANY comic book ever released in the U.S. or elsewhere. Trust me, I investigated this subject years ago.
The Nooper comic seen on those shows, as you no doubt have concluded, is just a mock-up that someone created, likely using a name of someone they knew personally. |

IMDB trivia from The Joker's Epitaph episode of Batman (nothing that hasn't been mentioned here just now but here you go)
>>>Trivia As the newsstand scene opens with the newsstand hawk proclaiming Bruce Wayne's impending nuptials, the magazine board behind him displays two 'Arnold Nooper' detective comics. These were fake comics used as props in many TV shows as early as the 1959 CBS comedy The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis (1959). The same Arnold Nooper 'comic book' can be seen in the magazine rack of Dobie's father, Herbert T. Gillis' grocery store.<<< https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0519532/ |

This stuff on Arnold Nooper is fascinating! I notice that on all the series, it looks like the exact same “all purpose” cover.
I thought that only on “Police Squad!” would I have to watch the whole screen carefully…. cd |
