Default Drew Carey Vows to Never Retire From 'The Price Is Right': 'I Want to Die on Stage'

https://www.etonline.com/drew-carey-...clusive-224660

If you want to remove Drew Carey from hosting duties on The Price Is Right, you'll need to wrestle the microphone from his grasp.

In an exclusive interview with ET's Kevin Frazier at the CBS Fall Schedule Celebration, Carey, the beloved host of the show, made a bold statement about his future on the iconic game show.

"I'm not going anywhere," Carey asserted when questioned about his hosting position, which he assumed from the legendary longtime host Bob Barker in 2007.

"I think Bob made a mistake by retiring. I'm not gonna make that same mistake. As long as my heart is ticking and they want me to be on the show, I think I'm gonna do The Price is Right. I just love it."

Carey's commitment to the show is unwavering, expressing his belief that he was destined for the role. "I think I was made for it," he added with a smile.

When questioned about any advice he might have for Ryan Seacrest, who is set to host Wheel of Fortune, Carey responded with characteristic humor.

"Do I have any advice for billionaire Ryan Seacrest? Who hosts everything all the time? No," he chuckled. “Bro, I think you got it. I think you know what to do. I think you know how to host things. Don't worry about it. You're going to be fine."

Reflecting on his past successes, Carey reminisced about The Drew Carey Show, which celebrated its 20th anniversary since its conclusion and will mark 30 years since its premiere next year.

"That was one of the best experiences of my life," he shared. "I loved it, all the writers, all the cast – we were like a family. I felt like that and yeah, I just thought it was the greatest thing, and I'm so grateful I got to do that. Grateful to Warner Brothers and ABC for giving me an opportunity like that. Made my whole life."

Barker died at age 99 on Aug. 26, 2023 after a battle with Alzheimer's disease, and when ET joined Carey on the Price Is Right set in Sept. 2023, he couldn't help but pay tribute to Barker's legacy.

"He was so good at this," Carey raved. "He was so good at relating to people and getting them to be relaxed and be themselves. You watch his demeanor and his attitude. He never seemed stressed."

While Carey said he sometimes struggles to live up to that laid-back legacy, he learned a lot from watching Barker serve as the Price Is Right host from 1972-2007.

"I've learned to relax while I'm onstage and not be so uptight about what's going on," he shared. "I just have to own the show and make it like my living room, because he was so comfortable in front of a camera."

Bob had Alzheimer's at the end and Drew still says it was a mistake for him to retire. No one at CBS wants Drew to die on stage, good grief.

Maybe Drew Carey is wrong, Bob Barker made a right choice to step down as the host of The Price Is Right after 35 years on CBS back in 2007 when he retire from his 50 year TV hosting career although he made 3 special occassional appearances(in 2009, 2013 & 2015 respectively) afterwards. Maybe CBS should come to their senses by deciding not to let Drew continue hosting The Price Is Right any longer so they should very soon to look for Drew’s potential TPIR successor once whenever Drew Carey’s Contract expires or Hollywood has other projects for Drew himself.

Bob was stressed I’m sure. After all, during the final years of his career, he was in his 80s and he was also the executive producer from 1988-2007. With him getting pressured by CBS to make room for commercials he felt he had to make the games go way too fast for his liking. There’s also was contestants like these that according to YouTube channel ScorpioTV, made Bob realize that it was only going to get harder and months after this episode, he announced his retirement.
