Post Karl is never mentioned

Did anyone else notice while reading the 1976 interview that wheeone posted that in talking about buying the house Freddie never mentions his Father.
He said I bought my mom a house she deserves it.
Very similar to the way Chico spoke of his Mom when talking to his Father in Chico's padre.

Yes I noticed, many unanswered questions about his relationship with his dad.

Question

Karl seemed like one of those absent fathers from what I've read. I also do not understand why Maria chose to write only about her relationship with Freddie. It must be painful to have a Father that is alive and "absent" at the same time.

Question

I find all of this troublesome too. I don't quite understand it. His Mom did say in the book that Karl loved Freddie, but with him being an older father when Freddie came along, they did not do alot of the usual Father and Son activities.

I feel that they mutually loved each other, but Freddie was just closer to his Mom.

Question

I still find it quite odd that Karl would be left out of Freddie's will. I can understand Kathy being left out, but his Dad? There's a lot we will never know.

Karl may have been left out Freddie’s will because he was dying of cancer.
Freddie probably thought it be best to just leave his estate to his Mom and son, since his Dad wouldn’t be alive for too long

ISTR that Karl was previously married, and had a young daughter who drowned.

Yes. Karl’s daughter from his first wife drowned. He had three children with his first wife. Two girls and a son. Freddie was very close to his older siblings. They lived in Puerto Rico. His older sister Rita still lives there.
