I saw the ep. Great ep.
Ricky was great, too, though he didn't have a ton of lines. Mostly played his flute. It's easy to forget how big a rock and roll star he was in the late 50s. He was 2nd only to Elvis in terms of chart singles. A big hitmaker. From late 1958 through 1959, he had 10 Top 10 hit singles, and 13 Top 20 singles. That's about 5 big hit singles a year. Most acts have 2-3. Believe What You Say was quite a rocker, a rockabilly single. Of course, Ricky didn't write his songs, like Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Chuck Berry, and, later, like Brian Wilson (Beach Boys) and Lennon/McCartney, but still... quite a big success. |
