What's Happening followed the new Hit show Mork and Mindy in season 3 on Thursday Nights until Feb 9, 1979. Show then moved to Friday Nights and fell out of top 30 and ranked #48 after being in the top 10 to 20 from Sept to January . It aired on Friday from Feb to March 16th and then moved to Saturday nights on March 31, 1979. The cancellation date was announced 4/23/79

ABC paired it with the new show Makin It that aired at 8pm since it ranked top 10 a week before. But as the lead in the following week it ranked 57th and WH was 37th and it was all down hill

Following Mork and Mindy in its first season definitely helped the show. The show got so dumb and ridiculous in season 3. I think the show could have lasted 5 seasons IF 1. they did not burn out on all the fat jokes in every episode 2. They kept the mother and built mores scripts around her instead of seeing her walk out the door every episode. 3. Used the father character more. 4. Raj does not move out. 5. No big and little Earl. 6. Kept Dee as a smart **s.

The only episodes I like in season 3 are Dollar Disco Disaster and the Thomas Treasure. Both so ridiculous they are fun.
