Default With Seasons 3-6 constantly airing on TV right now, I’ve been wondering…

Why did Mama and Naomi’s voices become so high pitched? LOL. Were they told to do that? It gets a bit annoying after a while.

I have to think so. Of all the aspects of the NBC vs syndicated years discussed here over the years, I'm not sure this one has been tackled too much.
I agree it is very noticeable and equally annoying.

I've noticed all of Vickey's current day portrayal of Mama is syndicated Mama... It makes me wonder if Vickey could still portray Carol Burnett sketch Mama today lol

Naomi changed and became a sex crazed dumber version of herself from the NBC years. Vint's cadence changed too since he became an idiot in the syndication years. Iola had an effected voice too. I think they were all going for the country bumkin kind of vibe. Naomi even wore a wig in syndication to change her look besides her voice.

In the 2 episodes filmed before he pilot (Mamas Silver and Alien Marriage) we get Mama's rage and goes on the attack. I love those episodes for those rants. She is screaming at Vint so hard in Alien Marriage that her voice cracks. Mama gets toned down once the pilot is filmed and we no longer get those rants.

I like the NBC years better because I loved when Naomi stood up to Mama and put her in her place. She was the most stable in the family. In episodes like The Mama Who Came To Dinner she puts Mama in her place.

Naomi had a complete makeover--looks and personality. I remember one confrontation with Thelma in the NBC years where Naomi called her a blue haired etc. It was a great exchange.

I think it was a Blue Haired Dragon

I love it when Naomi confronts Mama and Vint when they blame her for the obscene phone calls.

But the line that still makes me chuckle is on the Honeymoon episode when Vint orders a bottle of Cold Duck to the room. Vint is in bed when there is a knock at the door. Vint asks Naomi, "Is that the Cold Duck?" Naomi responds "No, its the old crow"
Vint: Mama, Is that you?
Mama: No. Its Mr. T fool!

The audience gets to cheer Naomi when she puts Mama in her place in The Mama Who Came To Dinner for being so rude and crass and Naomi's party.

I think Mama even drops a G.D. bomb once, but it's in the Wedding episode, when Eunice crashes the party, I'm pretty sure she says, "GODDAMMIT EUNICE, You've ruined everyone's evening now just quit while you're ahead!"
