I did too. I thought she looked very normal. The opposite look is not attractive at all.

Susan Dey was I think, beautiful in a girl next door kind of way.

I read an argument elsewhere that said that while on The Partridge Family, Susan had what you could say was a unique that worked well for her when she was a young woman, but didn’t carry itself into her later years (presumably, by the time that she was doing LA Law and what not).

I don't entirely understand what exactly was "unique" about Susan's look at first glance. I mean, she did have those big and bright blue eyes, pouty lips, toothy and gummy smile, cleft chin, and long and straight chestnut brown hair that was parted in the middle.

I think that I said before, that Susan Dey struck me as attractive in more of a wholesome, girl next door kind of way. On The Partridge Family, Susan was very soft spoken and also like I said before, she seemed to have something of a sweet shyness about her on screen.

I've been watching the final season recently on AXSTV, and pardon me for being out of a loop, but was Susan's change in hair style that drastic or unflattering? I mean, I don't think it was that necessarily off-putting as say, when Keri Russell cut her hair short on Felicity or Alyssa Milano during the final two seasons or so of Who's the Boss? Susan's hair was still the same shade and still reasonably shoulder length. I mean, it wasn't exactly super short like Shirley Jones, then I would've immediately noticed a radical difference.

But others have agreed with the sentiment that they didn't like it when she started messing with her hair:
Quote:
  • What the heck happened to Susan Dey's hair in the final season. She turned from good-looking to looking like Aunt Esther from "Sanford and Son."
  • I think the show went downhill when Susan Dey Had that Gorgeous Chestnut Brown Hair Cut. It still Looked Very Shiny Don't Get Me wrong But Honey What were You Thinking At least It was Better Than Her LA LAW Look YUCH!!!!
  • For me, this show jumped the shark when Susan Dey's anorexia became so pronounced. It broke my heart to see it. She was skin and bones, her color was awful--or else her makeup was--and her last hairstyle looked like a bad wig. Laurie Partridge was a cool, hip role model for me till then, but I can remember watching it at my grandma's once and hearing Gran say "Oh, my...is that girl sick? She looks like she has cancer!" I realized how bad she looked, and I could never watch again.
  • The last season they brought in that little punk Ricky. Death to Ricky! They changed too much of the look of the show too. Keith's hair was down to his ass (okay, not that long), Danny was parting his hair in the middle to look like Keith, Laurie was pulling it back - then got some weird-ass haircut (at least she put on a few lbs) and Rueben had that bad porn mustache. New wallpaper in the house too. By the way, to that poster commenting on the 1st season opening theme song - yes, same melody but different arrangement & lyrics. It wasn't "And then we got Rueben to sell our song," it was "Danny got Rueben to sell our song...." Man, Lauri was so boneable that 1st year!

Does anyone else agree? Plus she had a nice smile.
I've been watching a lot of The Partridge Family lately on AXS TV and I too thought that Susan was a really pretty girl. Like others have said, she had these big, sparklingly blue eyes and this really sweet and infectiously cute smile. I guess that there was something very ethereal about her on the show.

Seeing Susan in this performance of "Crying in the Rain" in the "Two for the Show" episode from Season 4, I kind of get why boys would've immediately fallen in love with her.

Susan in that clip does this thing with her mouth where it looks like she's trying to be flirtatious while in the presence of the Williams Brothers, Andrew and David. But Susan is so cute that it just comes across as more innocent and playful.

Come to think of it, I suppose that Susan during her Partridge Family days sort of strikes me as being the Liv Tyler of her day in that there's something that's very soft, hypnotic, ethereal, dreamy, and feminine about her aura.

I also think that Susan kind of looks like how I would imagine Vanessa Hudgens would look like if she happened to be Caucasian.

To follow up on my first point, there have been people out there online who said that Susan Dey is one of those women who had this weird thing going on with her facial features that resulted her in being utterly gorgeous as teen but not quite so as an adult.

Susan Dey (Young):

Susan Dey (2018):

I don't know if that necessarily means that Susan got more weathered and homely looking as she got older. As others have said about Susan in this interview that she did with David Letterman circa 1988, her makeup and hairdo were not particularly flattering.

Then again, Susan seemed to have something of an overbite, which made her kind of resemble a rabbit. I wonder if she really did have to wear braces like on the show.

Susan you can argue, also looks like Sasha Pieterse:

And now a "similar" photo of Susan:

I'm assuming that this photo of Susan was taken from around the same time period. Susan still had those unmistakably beautiful blue eyes.

I sometimes though, wish that Susan kept the hairstyle that she sported on The Partridge Family (the long, chestnut brown hair) as her career progressed. I don't entirely understand why during much of the "adult" phase of her career, she sported a blonde bob. I'm guessing that Susan started dying her hair blonde to better separate or distance herself from her Laurie Partridge image. I suppose that the blonde hair combined with natural aging (when Susan lost the baby fat that she had when she was on The Partridge Family) made Susan look more harsh and washed out.
