Default What did you think of the 2023 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade?

I happened to see parts of this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Peacock and I can honestly say this parade was the weakest parade in history. For one thing why it started at 8AM rather than 9AM is shocking to me because I can't figure out why they would start it early and it's shocking that people have to get up to watch it at 8AM and the timeslot should've been left alone and stayed at 9AM and I see this as a sign that the parade is downhill. Second why is it that every time a singer would perform Savannah and Hoda would dance and annoyingly take pictures and that really annoyed me. Third why did they have such a weak lineup in this parade? Because it seemed to be mostly R&B artists like Bell Biv Devoe En Vogue and Brandy which tells me that the parade has a new image. But my mom LOVED the Disney float and thought it was cool. At least the ending was just what I dreamed it would be with The Rockettes with Santa. But I hope the parade improves itself again next year

I think we are seeing a new image for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and I think Macy's wants to gain a new audience and a new generation of parade watchers. Because starting with the 2020 parade you could tell that the parade was going in a new direction. The 2023 parade is an example of why the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade has gone downhill in the first place. I also think NBC is desperate for ratings and they think that attracting new generations to the parade is the smart choice to do. Also putting commercials for animated movies in the parade is just not right for the parade to do. And in the Broadway shows they showcase shows like Back To The Future and And Juliet and people really can sit through a whole hour of Broadway shows? I really don't think so? Also why do they stick older singers and groups in the parade lineup? Because when I started watching it they had Chicago and they could've sung a Christmas song rather than You're The Inspiration and the most oddest thing was they had Cher in this year's parade and why was Cher in the parade in the first place? Does she even have a new album coming out soon? And why En Vogue and Bell Biv Devoe were chosen to be in the parade? I think they want to market R&B singers and rap artists in the parade to attract new audiences. But I think this year's parade will go down in history as the weakest link of Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parades

The Macy character ballons are weak sauce again this year. You know it's bad when the Chicago parade on Pluto TV has more recognizable character balloons.

I was surprised that Bell Biv Devoe sang their classic R&B hit Poison but they sang the original 1990 version and not a live version of Poison and when I listened to my copy of MTV's Party To Go album from 1990 which has Bell Biv Devoe's Poison I found the exact same version of Poison that was in the parade. But En Vogue's Free Your Mind performance was live and edited and what Bell Biv Devoe should've done was sing another song besides Poison but I know why Macy's decided to have a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles float in the parade was to promote the new Paramount+ movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem and Nickelodeon should've had a Good Burger float to honor Good Burger 2's release as well. But another thing that shocked me was they had Monty Python's Spamalot which I disliked because when I watched the performance on Youtube it was odd and awkward and I don't know why Monty Python's Spamalot was even chosen to be featured in this year's parade in the first place? But what I think Macy's should do is put family-friendly Broadway musical acts rather than non-family oriented Broadway musical acts to make the parade better. Also was Ariana Debose gonna be featured in the parade to promote Disney's Wish? Because my mom was telling me that Ariana was gonna be in the parade but they didn't show her

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Draws Its Biggest TV Audience Ever
by James Hibberd
Nov. 24, 2023

Christmas came early for NBC: The network’s annual telecast of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade delivered the biggest ratings ever.

The 97th annual parade was seen by 28.5 million viewers and earned a hefty 7.2 rating in the 18-49 age demo. Both numbers are up six percent from last year’s parade. It was also the highest-rated entertainment program of the year in both categories across all of broadcast and cable.

The record is particularly impressive at a time when even major live events have witnessed ratings erosion in recent years.

We’re absolutely thrilled that a record number of people were able to enjoy the parade with their families and friends, and spend the day with us,” said Jen Neal, executive vice president of Live Events and Specials, NBCUniversal Media Group.

We take great pride in bringing the best holiday programming to our audience – across both NBC and Peacock – and there’s no better way to bring in the season than with balloons, marching bands, musical performances and a tradition like no other. A big thank you to Macy’s for being such great partners on this iconic event.

Hi, Hawkee! Yes, I watched the parade. I was pleasantly surprised. Of course there was too much promotion of Broadway plays and woke pushing of "inclusiveness", but there was also some nice floats and best of all, the Rockettes were there in all of their glory, wearing girlish costumes and high kicking, instead of how they were last year. Hopefully the Macy's people get the message that tradition is what people want on the holidays. Merry Christmas, Hawkee!

I love the Thanksgiving Day Parade, it's the signal that Christmas is right around the corner.
