I could see the benefits of archiving certain forums. Some new members don't look at the dates when replying to threads.
We used to archive the main Chit Chat board years ago about once a year. We might have also done it with the Trading Post section in the past, but I really can't remember. Those are the only two sections that I would consider archiving and locking threads for replies. The other individual sitcoms/television shows, music and movies boards have topics which are more timeless. We have older threads which are still getting replies. The problem with archiving those two sections is the sheer size of them. The main Chit section has over 38,000 threads spanning 789 pages. The Trading Post section has over 22,000 threads spanning 455 pages. I fear the server would run out of memory and crash if I attemped to mass move that many threads. I would need to manually move 50-100 threads at a time. As a general rule, we don't mass delete or prune any posts. There have been a few times when we were politely asked to remove some older threads for various reasons. Members can delete their own posts within threads. Sometimes people will edit their thread and put delete or no longer needed in the thread title if they are no longer looking for something. I remove those threads when I see them. |

We did have a Trading Post - Archives - Read-Only section. I hid it when the threads were moved to the main section.
How many years worth of threads should be kept active? https://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards...play.php?f=623 |
