Vinton and Naomi should have gotten Franny's bedroom. Bubba should not have gotten it. Thelma should have given Bubba the option of moving into Franny's studio or the basement.

The mysterious missing bedroom has always been debated among fans. In the syndicated episodes, there only seems to be 2 bedrooms upstairs. Fran's studio was Sonya's bedroom and before that it was Eunice's and Ellen's. But it seems to be gone in the syndicated episodes. Buzz's bedroom was in the attic which appeared to be a full bedroom also.

But would Vint and Naomi really wanna be up there next door to Mama's room? lol

Remember there was an episode where Vint and Naomi switch rooms with Bubba. Bubba moves into the basement but no one is happy including Mama and everyone moves back.

Yeah that's what I'm remembering, I doubt Vint and Naomi would wanna be that close to Mama at night lol

I think Bubba could be happier in the basement though, as he would have a lot more freedom it seems... I'd imagine sleeping that close to Mama, you'd have to watch your every step and watch every noise you made, or she'd be in there to see what was going on lol

this is my take on it: vint and naomi had to get the basement because the whole show was predicated on the idea that naomi was quite lazy, tacky to say the least (in terms of her personal tastes), and had no domestic skills to speak of. since mama's jokes during the course of the show were mostly based on naomi's (and vint's) negative attributes, it would have made no sense to have them sleep near mama because of the lack of comedic value from them being there.

but the allure of sleeping/living in a basement made mama's ongoing jokes about naomi and vint better, stronger and funnier. in other words, them being in the basement made the whole show funnier.

I could see a lot of comical situations of Mama BARGING IN on Vint and Naomi if they were in the bedroom next to hers, but there would have to be a lot more upstairs scenes, and the upstairs was rarely ever shown

One of my favorite lines in the series is in Supermarket when they are fighting at the dinner table and Mama says something like "some people need to get a life" Naomi storms up and goes into the kitchen and yells through the kitchen opening "I dont have a life, I have a basement life." Mama yells back "Well get down in it where you belong"
