Did Alice live with them, or did she have her own groovy pad for those times she wanted to be alone with Sam? |

Alice was supposedly a live in housekeeper. If Sam got fresh she locked him in the butcher fridge to cool off.

But I always thought Peter was pretty nice to give Bobby the lower bunk, I would have a horror about rolling out of a top bunk bed, plus it would be a pain climbing the ladder all the time |

Some bunk beds can be separated as there is a hole or notch where a pin keeps the bed posts from slipping off. Some beds had a removal rail which could be secured to keep a person from errantly rolling off the bed.
I slept on the top bunk and I was always afraid of rolling off the bed at night. |

Bobby was scared of high places though, I wonder if that's the reason he got the lower one. I used to think sleeping in a top bunk would be fun, at first, but I think after a while of having to climb the ladder up and down EVERYTIME just to get in and out of bed, even for trips to the bathroom in the middle of the night, would get old.

I've only been around one pair of bunk beds, and the top bunk had a small railing around the side that would supposedly keep someone from rolling out |

I knew my memory was correct. Today I am watching Miss Popularity and Jan is in the boy's bedroom and Bobby is laying on his bed reading a comic book. This is why I said earlier that Bobby was on the bed against the wall and when Oliver came, Oliver took the top bunk when he moved in. So there are various episodes that show Bobby sleeping in that bed. However the one episode when Peter and Bobby have a fight Peter is on the bed against the wall cracking walnuts and Bobby is on the other side.
Strange little trivia question and shows the director was not concerned with continuity in the show. |

In the episode Welcome Aboard and Miss Popularity we see Peter took Greg's spot. In Snooperstar and Welcome Aboard we see Oliver on the top bunk and Bobby in the bottom bunk where he always was since the beginning. But the episode with the fight for some reason probably for ease of filming Peter is now on the other side right before Oliver arrives and it switches back.

In the end when they all come through the front door after Greg's graduation, Peter asks Greg if he decided which college he was going to. Greg wont commit claiming he will have to wait to see who gets his room. Oliver then says, "I have a great idea, how about turning it into a guest room." Marcia or Peter asks, "Who will be our guest?" And Oliver says "I will." Then they sort of get annoyed with Oliver and Oliver replies "It as just a suggestion" And then they all laugh. We do see Oliver sleeping or in the top bunk in Welcome Aboard, The Hustler, and The Snooperstar. |

In Everyone Can't Be George Washington it is visible when Peter 'hurts' his foot. In A Room at the Top it is in the corner when Bobby and Peter drag the mattress back into their room. |
