I think I Love Lucy is the most important show of the 1950's, I also think its the best series of the 50's and I don't think it's even a contest. A case could be made that I Love Lucy should be in the running for the best series of the 20th Century.

Now with all that said, I would have no argument with anyone who ranks Beaver as the second best series of the decade. I think it's the best family sitcom of the 20th Century.

I wonder who it was that broke the tie, was it me? Yes it was me, I submitted the 17th vote for Leave It To Beaver.

They were very, very different shows, of course. But for me LEAVE IT TO BEAVER was way better - better-written, funnier, more artistically produced, with a more layered style of humor. I LOVE LUCY was fairly broad and many of the plots and humor were relatively childish. After watching an LITB episode, I feel like I've really watched something. An ILL episode to me is like junk food - not nourishing at all. It did not teach moral lessons and its main aim was to entertain with Lucy's antics (Ricky was funnier, in my opinion). Also, LITB is more timeless. ILL was filled with topical references and vaudeville clichés that were probably outdated even while the show was being made. As such, it seems to me a very dated show. LITB didn't need those kinds of references but relied instead on writing and characterization.

I tied it again. I gave "I love Lucy" my vote because it promotes diversity better than "Leave it to Beaver" does.

Sorry but I don't like Lucy's acting, kinda juvenile & predictable for an elementary aged audience +- , and her personality acting or as herself is Mrs Know it All - that's a turn off for me.

LITB story-lines and the variety of actors keep the seasons moving & interesting.

If Lucy as my mom I'd run away from home, If June was my mom I'd have hardly any complaints
