Default MeTV is Running The Lucy Show

Part of it's Holiday Schedule. I wonder if they just bought a few Holiday Episodes or if they are adding it to the lineup. They really need to change up the schedule. Heaven help them if Svengoolie calls it a day.

If the numbers look good, they might add some of shows to the Winter schedule.

It airs daily on Catchy Comedy (formerly Decades), so I'm guessing this is just a one-time crossover event.

That said, yes they absolutely could stand to shake up the schedule.

There are quite a few Lucy Show episodes that have fallen into public domain, so possibly they plan to air those and won't incur any costs.

Those public domain prints are in very bad shape, they're almost unwatchable. Z Living runs them along public domain prints of Petticoat Junction, and The Beverly Hillbillies at midnight.

There are 30 public domain episodes of The Lucy Show, but the 30 episodes are almost all from the backend of the series run:

21 of the 22 season 5 episodes are in public domain and 7 out of the 24 season 6 episodes are in public domain. The other two in public domain are from season 1.

The quality of the show goes way down after season 3, it turned into more of a skitcom than a sitcom.

Right, and MeTV would probably not use PD episodes of any show due to the quality and any music cuts/changes. Shows like Lucy Show and the (early) PD Hillbillies and Bonanza are out on DVD, but those are copyrighted.

MeTV would never air episodes of a series in which the opening is less than ideal, like the PD eps of The Beverly Hillbillies or Petticoat Junction. Hey waitaminute, MeTV routinely airs seasons of The Rifleman with the completely incorrect opening from another season! And the entire 12th season of My Three Sons using the 11th season opening -- which has Don Grady billed even though he'd left the series altogether!

MeTV would never air episodes of a series in which the color is less than ideal, like the PD episodes of The Lucy Show. Hey waitaminute, the color PD Lucy eps actually display BETTER color than the 12th season My Three Sons eps that MeTV airs! (Not to mention scratchy, shopworn openings from the earlier M3S color seasons.)

The stuff on MeTV is oftentimes lacking in one aspect or more, for those seeking high quality repro and complete correctness. I disagree that the PD Lucy Show eps are "almost unwatchable." I've watched them many times over -- and like the examples from other series I've given above, they're not great prints -- but they're good enough for me.

Keep looking for perfection, but you may not always have much luck. Now that Duster76 and stevea have annihilated my innocuous post, I'll let them reply -- and tell me how they draw lines as to what's "watchable" and what isn't in their views based on the highest of standards.

Also, the Lucy Show prints that MeTV/Catchy uses are over 30 years old. And they are in rough shape.

All good points, particularly about My Three Sons. WHMB here, which had access only to seasons 6 thru 10 (and, earlier, the first half of 11), aired the episode content unedited.

Season 12--yes, those TV prints are the worst of the worst. They date back to the 1970s. They re badly chopped up, have time-compressed closing credits which eliminate the main cast (some earlier seasons' credits are also sped up, but at least they didn't cut the main cast), and the incorrect opening credits. So as now aired Ronne Troup and Dawn Lyn are not credited AT ALL! The only positive thing is that they air 379 of the 380 episodes.

I agree about the Rifleman, too. The episode content is clean, but they obviously did not access the original episodes, which would have had correct season openers and end credits with the original Four Star Productions logo.

I agree. A weekday schedule change is long overdue. They should air GOOD TIMES.

For the requirement of educational programming for children, perhaps they could air the 1970s version of THE ELECTRIC COMPANY.

My Three Sons should have more than one episode a day with all the episodes it has.

I did a post a while back on shows that were not originally E/I programs but could be.
