Hooray! This will help new viewers get acquainted with LITB. A very good writeup too. Too bad I don't have equipment to play Bluray, but then I already have the regular DVDs.

Blu-Ray players are pretty cheap, now. I'll be interested to see if there are any differences between this issue and the 2010 DVDs.

Most notable, with the DVD sets, there possibly are either some slightly edited episodes in season 3 (several episodes run a little short, but not short enough to be syndication episodes), or some slightly time-compressed masters.

Amazon has shipped, so there are no delays with this release, and the price was slightly reduced since it was listed on Amazon.

I'm staying with the DVD's, no blu rays for me. Heck I don't even have a blu ray player so the blu rays wouldn't do me good anyway. LOL

On the DVD's, one season 3 episode that I suspect might have a little edit is School Sweater. It's not really a huge deal but an edit is still an edit.

I know we've hashed this over before, but i still think there is something wrong with the June's Birthday episode. There is a classroom scene which I think has a little missing dialog, and someone involved with the DVD production told me in an email that he thought there was some damaged film in the network print. I don't think the old syndication film had the damage and had the complete scene. They may not have had an undamaged syndication print to edit in the missing dialog.

June's Birthday runs close to 26 minutes on the DVD so it seems that it would be complete but I can't say for sure, I'll have to watch the episode again and see if I notice anything strange.

Are you getting the blu rays? If so, please post if you discover any differences in episodes compared to the DVD's.

Yes, and I plan on posting differences, if any.

About midway thru the episode, there is a classroom scene. In the syndication version I remember, Miss Landers tells the children they're going over to Mrs. so-and-so's house to sing for their mothers.

In the current version that's cut out, and she just says they'll meet in the cafeteria, I think, after Whitey asks a question. So it's probably just a few seconds lost.

On the DVD, I looked at the classroom scene of the June's Birthday episode and if there's a little snippet that's cut it looks like it would be right after Larry says to Miss Landers "those were my Oinks", then Miss Landers says to Larry "well just make sure that they are." Then Larry says "yes Miss Landers." Right after that is where a little snippet of Miss Landers dialog could be cut but I don't know for sure.

In the School Sweater episode, if there's an edit on the DVD it would be in the opening scene of the episode when Wally comes home and talks to Ward and June for a few moments. I saw the episode in syndication years ago and unless I'm mistaken I seem to recall Wally saying to Ward and June during that opening scene that he and Beaver were going out the next day to dig up the gopher in the yard. This part of the dialog is absent on the DVD so I suspect it was cut out but again I don't know for sure. When you have a chance take a look at the opening scene of this episode on the blu ray.

I'm more confident now that the School Sweater episode is indeed edited on the DVD. A little past 12 minutes into the episode, a new scene begins where Wally walks into the kitchen and says to Ward "Where's the shovel? Beaver and I are going to try and dig up that gopher." The way that the line is spoken with Wally saying "that gopher" would indicate that the gopher was mentioned earlier in the episode but there is no mention of it which gives me more confidence that there's an edit in the opening scene.

I think I remember that gopher scene. I need to re-watch that episode.

And on the birthday episode, despite its length, there's nothing that establishes the class visit to the mothers' club tea, so they can sing for the adults. All of a sudden they are talking about meeting in the cafeteria, after Whitey's question.

This is one instance where I'e rally like to see an old syndication episode sourced from film.

Is the original pilot on the Blu Ray? No mention was made in the Amazon listing.

I'm also curious to know if the season 1 blu rays correct the error from the Shout Factory DVD's of season 1 where the episode opening teasers are misplaced. When watching season 1 episodes, I use the 6 DVD set from Universal because the episode opening teasers are placed correctly. When watching episodes from seasons 2-6 I use the DVD's from Shout Factory.

I watched the full episode of June's Birthday, and Beaver's class going to Mrs. Harrison's is established in the scene prior to the classroom scene, Beaver and June discuss it in the family kitchen. The episode runs right around 26 minutes on the DVD and nothing really appears to be edited. I'm fairly confident though that there's an edit in the opening scene of the School Sweater episode.
