Default Is Svengoolie Getting Held Back From Showing True Horror From MeTV?

I think they asked a lot of him for 2 movies on a Saturday night as well as hosting during October. He's bringing the Kolchak Premier (?) as the first Movie and Godzilla as the second.

He's being stretched too thin.

Movies Channel (available OTA) brought a LOT of crazy. Some of them are in the public domain (Carnival of Souls), other were just nuts.

I don't know if MeTV won't let him play them because they are too edgy or he can't afford them.

He can't keep running the same old movies. This is the month you BRING IT.

MeTV also needs to move out of the 50's.

No one wants to watch heavily censored versions of their favorite 70' s and 80's horror flicks. He is only hosting two new episodes this month, so he is not being overworked. Personally, I like the old horror and Sci-Fi movies better than the cheesy 80's flicks he has been showing recently

2 is bad. This is October - he should be BRINGING IT. I like him, but he seems more interested in marketing and self-promotion lately.

Other free channels are getting better movies. There are a LOT in the Public Doman.

I think it's a mixture of MeTV limits of what he can show and he is a little self-involved at the moment.

MeTV and Svengoolie were always family-friendly with a TV-G tone. I cannot picture Sven commentating on some of the more scarier and disturbing movies from the 70s - onward. Its not the tone they're going for.

They always show movies that are more tame and even comical.

Svengoolie, at least during the Rich Koz era, has always been more of a comedy show, so they tend to stick to horror movies that are more on the campy side. I think you're expecting too much.

Maybe - but "Frankenstein" was pretty traumatic. If he is allowed to run that, he could run some more edgy stuff. He just seems like he is more into self-promotion and pushing merchandise.

At some point, MeTv is going to have to get off the 50's shows.

I'd start with running "Early Edition" at the 6-8 Spot.

You're way off base here. The show is a celebration of an era in "horror film"
history. Svengoolie hosting style is in the classic tradition of horror show hosts like Zacherle, interactive with plenty of comedy segments. The show is a big hit and has been for many years.

METV serves the baby boomer audience, one of the few stations that can make that claim, scheduling a show like Early Edition a late 90's series wouldn't fit with that format.

Goolie showed a bunch of direct to video schlock back in the 90s to the early 00s.

ME-TV is strictly family programming. No R-rated movies will be shown.
That`s why Svengoolie stopped showing R-rated movies in 2010. The last one
he showed was THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD 1985
