Default Shocked but not surprised?

So, some guy said something like, "I found my bully's diary and my bully admitted in it that he beats me up because he is secretly in love with me, but in the closet. He admitted he beats me up so that people won't suspect that he actually likes me..I am shocked but not surprised if this makes sense."

Have you ever been shocked but not surprised? I feel like that's an oxymoron....

I've been shocked but not suprised many times, but honestly your story about bully and beating up is strange.

You can still be disgusted or horrified by something but not be surprised. Like when you read about some of the terrible things people do, you can be shocked but not surprised because you've heard so many other times how terrible things happen.

Sounds like being overly pedantic to me TBH

It reminds me of when Mary Hartman said, "It wasn't really a nightmare, it was more like a bad dream!" I mean for all practical purposes, it's the same thing lol

The test was pretty difficult, though not that HARD lol
