Default Today I learned Thread! :D

I thought this would be a fun thread to talk about things we learned that very day, whatever "today," is.

So, today I learned that flying flags upside down is a sign of distress or as protest and people shouldn't do this as a prank. I've lived 39 years, almost 40 and have NEVER known the stigma behind flying flags upside down. I had long ago heard that letting the flags touch the ground was considered disrespectful at best and illegal at worst, but I didn't know about flying the flag upside down being bad too.

What 'walk off' means in baseball. It was always called game winning hit, but know it's called a walk off hit. I was told it means when a player gets a game winning hit, the opposing teams walks off the field. Didn't know that.

Do tell. Did she steal from you or was she just not a good cleaner?

She did not steal, just very young 19 and doing odd jobs to fill in her college life, As I said interesting....

If my funds were abundant I would work to establish a full time every 2 month person.

Literally about four minutes ago, I learned that Victoria Falls in Africa is much bigger and higher than Niagara Falls between New York and Canada. And that Victoria Falls is the biggest waterfall in the world! And that a bottom of a waterfall is called a plunge pool.

Today I learned that the "No internet Dinosaur," is actually a game where you have the T-Rex Dinosaur jump over cactus. I just assumed that the T-Rex Dinosaur symbol was just a symbol to convey that a Dinosaur would have no idea what the Internet is.

I was reading a piece on actor Tom Ewell who had a TV series that lasted one season 1960-61. He lived to the age of 85 dying in 1994, here's the amazing part, his mother outlived him, and not by a little bit, by 4 years! His mother lived to the age of 109 passing in 1998!

Wow! I would have assumed if he died at 85, his Mother would have already been dead! 109 is a REALLY long life! Sucks she lost her son though. The oldest person in the modern world died at 126! In the Bible, Methuselah died at around 996 years, but who knows if the Bible went by modern years? The Gregorian Calendar, January, February, March, April,May, June, July, August, September, October, November, and December didn't exist yet in the Bible time.

I learned recently that the Batman logo is actually a BAT and not an open MOUTH! Seriously, it looks like either one depending on what youre thinking about when you look at it

Another case in the same topic area is the startling case of a man named Harrison Tyler who lives to this day, he turned 95 this past November. Harrison is the grandson of a former President, who was born in 1790 during the first term of George Washington! Here's that story:

John Tyler was the 10th President of the United States serving from 1841 to early 1845. John Tyler's first wife died in 1842, Tyler, at 54 years of age remarried in 1844, in this day and age it would be referred to as an age inappropriate union, his second wife was only 24 years old. Tyler as it turned out was a bit of a hound dog, this second union produced seven children that was to go along with the eight children his first marriage produced. We will now turn our attention to his son Lyon born in 1853, in this case the apple didn't fall far from the tree. Lyon's first wife died in 1921, he was 67 at the time, he remarried in 1923, his new wife was 34 years old! This union produced 3 more children (he had 3 with his first wife). Harrison, his second son with wife number 2 was born in 1928. His first son from the second marriage Lyon Jr lived until 2020! And that's how someone still alive as I write this can have a grandparent born in the 18th Century!

I just found out today that the Cliffhangers Yodeling song from The Price Is Right is a REAL song, it's about 3 minutes and 30 seconds long. I thought it was just something done for The Price Is Right show.
