Default A New Reboot of Dark Shadows?

In an interview on Soaps.com, actress Kathryn Leigh Scott (the original Maggie Evans) said that “Dark Shadows” might return again on a streaming network. Ms. Scott said that producer and writer Mark B. Perry of “The Wonder Years” is interested in reviving the beloved gothic soap opera.

KLS said that she would like to appear in the the new DS as a more mature Maggie Evans. Who knows, if this show ever does air, maybe we’ll also see Lara Parker (Angelique), Nancy Barrett (Carolyn Stoddard) and David Selby (Quentin Collins) back on DS?

By now KLS would more likely play Mrs. Stoddard, and David Selby as Roger Collins. Obviously I favor keeping the same characters.

Or, KLS could be Dr. Hoffman, Alexandra Moltke/Isles could be Mrs. Stoddard, etc.

But who would be Barnabas?

Nancy Barrett, Kate Jackson, Kathy Cody and David Henesy could be in it, too. Denise Nickerson is gone, unfortunately.

Egad, how could I forget Lara Parker, re-reading the first post? She'd HAVE to be in it!

I, for one, would like to see actor Michael Hadge, who portrayed the iconoclastic hippie/motorcyclist, Buzz Hackett, back on DS. Yes, Buzz was Carolyn Stoddard’s boyfriend before Carolyn apparently dumped him for attorney Tony Peterson.

And, the uber-cool Buzz was THE Fonz, long before Henry Winkler ever assumed the role of Arthur Fonzarelli on “Happy Days.” As Buzz was so wont to say on DS:”If you feel it, sit it,” (whatever the heck that means?).

No matter what television executives and writers come up with in the future, I don’t think anyone will ever come even remotely close to matching the fascination, enjoyment and fierce loyalty the original DS engendered with the millions of its young viewers, who sat glued in front of their TV sets every weekday across America, watching the on-going exploits of Barnabas, Willie, Dr. Hoffman, Angelique and all of the other terrific characters back during the halcyon days of the 1960s.

It ain’t ever going to happen again.

Among the miscues, stagehands walking on camera, and Frid and Bennett stumbling over their lines, they really pulled off some great storylines and some impressive trick photography/special effects for the time.

Virtually all but a few videotapes were kept--some episodes are preserved only on black and white kinescopes, and only one episode has gone completely missing, except for an audio recording, and footage repeated from the previous episode. Amazing.

I hope not. We've seen what happens with "re-imaginings" of classic shows, and it's never pretty.
