Default Whitney Houston Made An Appearance on This Show?

I was at Whitney Houston's wikipedia page and it said she appeared in the episode "Katie's College". I know I watched all the episodes in 2010 when I bought the complete series, but for some reason I don't remember much about this episode and I don't remember seeing her. Did she sing a song in that episode?

Thanks, Brian. Interesting. She must have been about 20 when she appeared in that episode. I don't think she even had an album out at that point.

The first thing that I would like to say is that I am very happy to finally see some conversation stimulated about this fine series! It is just too bad that it took a tragic event to make it happen! Oh well!

Yeah I think she was trying to be like Janet Jackson and try acting as a 1st step in trying to leave the shadow of her famous family.

I never knew she appeared in this show, but I vividly remember her guest spot on Silver Spoons. You're right - her debut album was released in March of 1985, so this appearance predated it.

What part did she play on "Silver "Spoons"?

I think it was just a cameo as herself. Not sure though.

in 2002 she guest starred as herself on "Boston Public". She sang a song from her album.

She played rita in Spring of 1984, a few episodes before season 3 finished in the episode "Katie's College". It was her idea to open the boutique. The whole family was all for the idea but Nell, who promised Margaret she'd see Katie went to college when the time came. Grandpa talks Nell into letting Katie follow her heart in the end.

The only strange thing is in season 4, the boutique was mentioned about, and I think seen in "Breakdance" for a glimpse (not sure) in early season 4, and then towards the end of season 4 "Monkey See, Monkey Do" when Sam was trying on a dress for someone and it was known she was working there at the time, and lastly, in season 5, at the end of the season in "Katie's Korner". We never knew the name of the boutique until the last episode it was mentioned/shown in.

This gets me to thinking, did the producers want Whitney back for more shows? Did she decline to work on her music? Or did they just have her there that 1 time and that was it? They were to be partners, her and Katie, so it seems we could have seen the boutique more in seasons 4 and 5 had she stayed with the show. Maybe seen Whitney as Rita a few more times.

But then there was no explanation at all about Rita. No mention of her again. Also, it was called Katie's Korner, when Rita had the idea in the first place, and it would have most likley been named something else. Maybe Rita backed out of the deal? That's what I get from watching seasons 4 and 5. Katie struggled with keeping it, no mention of Rita once.

She played herself on the show. Dexter, one of the characters had a crush on her. I think it was Rick and Dexter's nephew, Alphonso arranged for them to get together. Whitney fell for Dexter as well. They dated for the entire episode. She also sand "Saving all my love for you" on the show.

Just bringing this thread back as I just watched this episode last night which was one of the later ones of Season 3. About fell out of my chair when I saw Whitney's name in the closing credits. Had to go back and rewatch and sure enough she played Katie's friend who was going to be her partner in the boutique.

Apparently this was a one appearance appearance by "Rita" and was never shown or mentioned again. Sadly they stopped developing the 3 girl characters as they eventually became an afterthought, especially after the new producers came on during Season 3.
