Intro Similarities to The Jeffersons

I’m diving into Diff’rent Strokes on Tubi, starting from the beginning.

I noticed several similarities in the intro to The Jefferson’s… driving through NYC, pulling up to the skyscraper, getting out and looking up the building…

Of course both series had ties to Norman Lear… but was this an intentional set-up? The Jeffersons had started three years prior, so it wasn’t done at the same time…

You're absolutely right, jayman75! The opening sequences used in the intros for the first two seasons of both Diff'rent Strokes and The Jeffersons are indeed eerily similar! And it's definitely no coincidence both sitcoms were Norman Lear productions!

I've been catching episodes of this one recently, and was impressed with the quality of the production, not just a"kids show" as I thought all these years before watching it finally.

Gary Coleman was actually a talented, funny young man, and the rest of the cast also impressed me, Dana Plato, notably.

And I've been new fan, recently, of Dixie Carter through Designing Women, so it's nice to see her in another series, another surprise, as I had no idea she was a regular on Different Strokes.

I always thought it would have been neat to have a crossover episode between these two shows. Instead of Arnold suing the model train shop owner, I would have loved seeing Willis upset with George Jefferson's dry cleaning store.

Willis- Dad, I just got back from that Jefferson's Dry Cleaners and look at my lettermen's jacket. It's still ruined. Dumb turkey made me pay double because only he can remove grape jelly stains.

Arnold- That guy was real mean Mr. D. He leaned over the counter and told us to split!

George- Weesy, I can't believe some turkeys are suing me. They must be related to Tom and Helen.

Louise- Why would say that?

George- Cause they have a honky for a dad.

The Lear shows seemed to stop crossovers or even mentioning the other characters they once knew so well after spinning off.

Maude and the Bunkers, the Jeffersons and the Bunkers, Florida seemed to forget Maude ever existed, and so on.
