Question Mayberry RFD Theme

The theme song used on Mayberry RFD was originally played as background music to open a scene on an early episode of the Andy Griffith Show. I only remember it in one episode. I don't recall hearing it again except on Mayberry RFD and in the reunion movie. Is there a story behind the song? It seems like a very elaborate tune for background music. And why was it only used once?

Question

I dont know how it went. Was there a song to MRFD or was it the same one from TAGS?

RFD had its own theme song "The Mayberry March" it opens with Ken Berry (Sam Jones)
and Buddy Foster (mike) pitching a baseball and it breaks a window in his shed.

The theme song was definitely used as a cue music in TAGS, transition music. I have not seen RFD in years but I have been watching quite a bit of TAGS. I will see if I can pinpoint which episode(s) it can be heard.

At the close of MRFD, Sam is finishing the repair of the window and then he and Mike resume playing with the baseball, as the credits play.

You can tell this closing was used in network airings of MRFD (due to Mike's age), but in syndication it's used only in the last half of the final season.

Yes, that music is heard fairly often on the Andy Griffith Show.

Now that we're discussing it, I'll also be watching for when that music appears.

I remember hearing the theme several times on TAGS. Interesting that they chose it for RFD. I guess it tied it into the mother show.

There's a slight variant of the Mayberry March from Season 7 Only a Rose episode.

I just heard it on the Wyatt Earp Rides Again episode from season 6. I wasn't in the room but it was probably coming out of the middle break. You couldn't miss it.

Heard it in the opening scene of "The Jinx" last night, also from season 2.

It played in various versions throughout "The Ball Game" from season 7.
