of other shows from its era? Shows such as Barney Miller (for which Linda Lavin acted on for about a season or so), or Norman Lear's shows that were also on CBS at the time like All In The Family aka Archie Bunker's Place, The Jeffersons, and One Day At A Time.

Alice was never as strong as a juggernaut like All in the Family. I would also say that The Jeffersons and One Day at a Time were also not highly regarded like AITF. of all, The Jeffersons probably has had more of a cultural presence than Alice or One Day at a Time (sans the recent reboot). Note that none of them were nominated for Comedy Series at the Emmys (Barney Miller was, even winning once).
Alice does deserve recognition for showcasing a single/widowed mother trying to make ends meet to support herself and her son, women's issues, etc. |

Since I am older than Linda Lavin then, she was a good looking woman, especially on Barney Miller. I like dark haired women. When I was a child and young teen she seemed liked an older woman, now that I am older, my opinion of her has changed. Now when she was on B Positive, she is still a very attractive senior citizen.

IMHO it was all because of the drama and how difficult working with Linda was. The show lost 2 actresses over her jealousy.

BestTV- Diane Ladd supposedly spoke publicly about difficulties with Linda, though there's nothing about the alleged Linda-Pollly feud, from either of them, or anyone who's worked on the show. All speculation for that one. Polly only acknowledged, right when Flo premiered, that there were tensions on the set, though she spoke positively about Linda.
I quite enjoy Alice, but, compared to some of the other shows regarded as the greatest of all time, it doesn't quite stack up. particularly in the post-Flo years. |

NO ONE from the show ever shot down all of the writing in the press of the jealousy on the set and Polly leaving. |

According to Diane Ladd, PL looked over at her as she was leaving the set and said “Good luck.” Yikes. Didn’t DL’s character have a final scene that wasn’t even with the cast? Wasn’t Belle in a phone booth and told Mel that she quit? |
