Default Louie Calling the Cabbies Losers

i just finished watching the third season of Taxi, including the twoparter where the cabbies and Louie had to find new jobs because the cab company closed. When they found out that it was reopening, Louie called the cabbies losers. I have always though Louie was the nastiest boss in the history of TV but it wasn't very nice for him or any boss in general to call his employees losers.

It's understandable that he is hard on Bobby because he has trouble landing a role or Tony losing a fight. But to me, it's wrong for a manager to call his own employees losers.

Louie didn't have a shred of niceness in him, totally fits his meanness calling the cabbies losers.

Louie's meanness was there for a reason. The show was made at a time in NYC when tons of transplants were flocking to the city to make it big as a singer, dancer, musician, etc. While it was nice that they had these hopes and dreams, most of them were delusional or in over their heads and never got anywhere.

Because so many of these people couldn't find work in their field, they took so-called menial, working class jobs that they looked down on as being too good for. In their minds, they weren't really cab drivers but a future star a day away from their big break; the actual cab drivers were losers but they, the future stars, were just slumming it. The point of Louie being mean was to make the show true to life in this regard, to say that no one who becomes a cab driver as a starving artist is better than the actual cab driver who does it for a living; they are just the losers still struggling to make it in showbiz. I don't remember the episode you're talking about but I'm assuming that this is why Louie called them all losers.

Louie DID have a big heart deep, deep, DEEEEEP down lol occasionally it showed, like when Alex's dog died and when Louie got his mom out of the nursing home because he truly loved her being home with him
