The last big floor model my family had was a Zenith that looked a lot like the Admiral in the ad you've shown. It looked like wood, but most of the cabinet was made of molded plastic. The exceptions were the top and base, which were particle board with a wood veneer finish of some kind.

My grandparents had one but my mom just had a entertainment stand with TV inside.

BTW: Archie didnt seem phased that the TV died. Edith was more concerned about it than he was
