Question How did Larry Breeding die?

I know the IMDB lists his cause of death as a road accident but does anyone know any more details about it? It couldn't have been that long after he did his last episode. I thought I read somewhere (maybe on the L&S 'boobookitty' mailing list) that he was dating Penny Marshall at the time. Is that correct or am I thinking of someone else?

He was smoking a cigarette and it landed in between his legs. He slammed into the wall on the freeway.

Larry Breeding guest starred as Laverne's boyfriend on three episodes of Laverne & Shirley.

He starred on the short-lived sitcoms Who's Watching the Kids? (1978-1979) and The Last Resort (1979-1980).

He died on his 36th birthday on September 28, 1982. This article is wrong because September 27 was a Monday.

It seems Hollywood was really high on this guy. He had a few failed tv series attempts and they had another series lined up for him . It's seems like they were trying to make him a TV star. He wasn't really that good looking and i didnt think his acting was anything special. And he had a terrible showbiz name. I guess dating Penny helped things. It's funny that i didnt realize that he died all of those years ago. He is sort of forgotten.

I think it's because he had a certain look that was popular at the time and had one of those faces that reminds people of other famous actors. Looking at his publicity photos, he looks like a mixture of Richard Gere with some Ron Pallilo and other dark haired actors thrown in.

Just for fun, I looked him up in Bing images, and Bing will recommend similar photos. When you see who was recommended, it might explain why Hollywood was pushing him: Paul Michael Glaser, Elliot Gould, Richard Gere, and Richard Kline.
