Did you see a new promo that the 6pm hour of MASH is staying into the fall lineup? So far I only see it for the Summer of Me promos.

It would not surprise me if they keep it on permanently. I'm surprised MeTV has much variety as it does. Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Perry Mason, Andy and MASH have been on the channel for ages and they haven't doubled down the airings until now with MASH.

I do think its possible MeTV's contract for MASH is expiring soon (say next year), so this is like them going all out before the show is finally off the channel.

The Medicare ads alone would be enough to drive them away. They drive me to the mute button.

The promo I saw is no longer referring to the 6-7 pm MASH programming as special, or part of a Summer of Me promotion.

I think METV ranks either 21 or 22 in popularity among the top 150 networks. That said, the network obviously skews older. The paradox is obvious, older Americans as a group tend to have more disposable income than younger people, but advertisers have little interest in promoting products on shows they watch. As a group older people are resistant to advertising making purchasing decisions based on their own research and a much more focused understanding of the things they want in a product.

It goes without saying that METV would like to lower their demos but overall reruns from the 80's and beyond don't fare as well ratings wise. There are many reasons for this, one that's seldom spoken of is the fact that shows in the 50's and 60 were watched in homes across America on one TV by families in living rooms where a parent(s) was watching with their children and possibly their parents as well. For example, a young person watching Andy Griffith was sitting in a living room with their parents and maybe a grandparent(s) and siblings. Some of those individuals are no longer with us, so a scene on the show that your father, mother, grandparents laughed at might bring them back for just a moment, the viewing experience becomes a much more profound one. In later decades where households commonly had multiple televisions watching was more of a solitary experience. Those shows don't have the extra connection to the past so they tend to be less alluring. There are other reasons of course (smaller audience size at the outset, more viewer choices etc) that make it a difficult problem for a network dedicated to legacy programming.

MASH should be on at 10 or 11 PM after Hogans Heroes. It's too depressing for Happy Hour.

They might as well change MeTV’s name to the “M*A*S*H channel”.

On second thought, it would be best to not give them any ideas.
