I visited Graceland in Memphis back in the 90's and it was so cool to see where Elvis lived and made music. In this video (three parts), the viewers are taken behind scenes where regular paid visitors dont get a chance to see.

I am from Memphis, in childhood, I lived about three miles from Graceland. I remember the day he died. I was 10 and saw the announcement on television that afternoon. Literally about a hundred thousand people showed up in the city at once, and one couldn't really drive through the crowds on Elvis Presley Boulevard in front of the house (and the street was at least four lanes wide then). I heard that there were no hotel rooms for a hundred mile radius. Unfortunately, there are a scant few videos of the days after Elvis' death, and all the insane fans out front. There is a video of Elvis in a herse going to the cemetary. Funny thing, a couple of idiots tried to steal the body but got caught before they got it. So maybe, this was a catalyst to bury him and his parents like cats in the front yard.
I have been on the property sometime afterwards as a child (I think with my mother) but outside the house, I did stand over the gravesites. My mother has been in the house on a tour. She mostly said that the house was not that much of a mansion, more of a large house if that makes sense. My understanding is that the guests are not allowed to go upstairs in the house, which means not going by the bathroom where Elvis died. I wouldnt mind seeing the inside of the house, but I am not going to pay to do so, because Elvis' idiot, grifter ex-wife and moron daughter (and she is a moron) are Scientologists (which is why I used the words to describe them). Lastly....Elvis has been dead for 45 years now so his fan base now are fastly dying off (Elvis would be 87 of he was still alive). I wonder if the numbers of people per year has dropped year after year because of this. I am in my 50's now and most of my generation has no interest in him or his music (being old fashioned, the man died when we were children, whose career was on the wane when he died). I dare say within 15 to 20 years Graceland will close due to lack of a breathing fanbase. Graceland is in a not so great neighborhood. It used to be 50 years ago. I was actually mugged not far from there many years ago (although I will say this was partly my fault) Not to mention the airport is about three miles away and the sounds of Fed EX planes screaming overhead all night long. If Elvis never died, he would have sold the property years ago, and if Elvis never existed, that property would be worth very little. |

I think Elvis will always have a large fan base due to his music and charisma as it is evident by how many visitores Graceland have each year. It is more than population of Memphis

And none of those was even important to me at the time, they just seemed "wrong" to the point where they stood out. \ Yet there are so many important things that I can only vaguely place in a meaningful context and timeline

You're welcome. I like the host Tom Brown as he seem very professional, funny and engaging. He is from Tupelo, Mississippi (birth place of Elvis), so he have been a big fan of Elvis all of his life.

Too bad Elvis chose drugs over life. But then that was his life plan.
